Sono Liam Vik e canto solo i brani rap che scrivo, è una passione che che vivo da quando ho sentito la necessità di ricercare dentro e fuori dalla mia mente il senso della giustizia, della verità. Mi definirei un poeta di strada che da poco ha deciso di fare ascoltare i suoi testi, cantando in una via sull’asfalto oppure su di un palco.

Pensai di scrivere questo rap per una forte empatia che provai nei confronti della famiglia Arrigoni quando giunse la notizia della tragica scomparsa di Vittorio, che fino a quel momento non sapevo purtroppo chi fosse. In seguito conobbi la sua vita leggendo i libri che narravano della sua esperienza come volontario di pace in varie parti del mondo, e così, dopo alcune riflessioni decisi di realizzare questo brano che ritengo essere un inno per la pace e non per la guerra, infatti con le mie parole non ho voluto... The opening track from YUNGBLUD’s self-titled EP gets its name from King Charles I of England, a monarch over England, Scotland and Ireland from 1625 until he was executed in 1649.

King Charles is often viewed as a tyrant due to his belief that he could govern according to his own conscience and no other sources. Many of his subjects disagreed with his policies, particularly his levying of taxes without consent from parliament.

Filled with frustrations, “Machine Gun (F*** the NRA)” is an upbeat track that relates to public shoot out which has been highly increasing in the USA. In the song, YUNGBLUD also points how the government quickly blamed mental health for the increasing shoot outs.

1917

1917 was written largely about the Battle of Passchendaele fought between July and December 1917 in some of the worst conditions of the whole war, and described by Lloyd George as "one of the greatest disasters of the war ... No soldier of any intelligence now defends this senseless campaign ..."

The song also references the changing political situations, the Russian Revolution and French army mutiny, as well as the less well known British mutiny at Étaples.

Finally 1917 addresses the executions of 306 British and Commonwealth soldiers in World War One, many of whom were suffering from shell shock and unfairly branded cowards. There is a little nod to Magnum's superb song on the subject Les Morts Dansant in the lyrics.

1916 was written about the Battle of the Somme which was fought between 1st July and 18th November 1916 and was the largest battle of the Great War fought on the Western Front. More than one million men were killed or wounded during the battle, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history…

1915 has been released on the centenary of the first use by British forces of gas as a weapon of war at the Battle of Loos. The horrific effects of gas warfare was immortalised in Wilfred Owen's poem Dulce et Decorum est, which is referenced in this song.

Il brano di Pino Daniele "E' Sempe Sera" è l'ultima traccia della track list di "Vai Mò", album pubblicato nel 1981.

La canzone è inspirata alla tragedia del terremoto dell'Irpinia del 1980 che colpì la zona della Campania (e della Basilicata) causando circa 3000 morti: "Chisst'anno nun se po' scurdà, avuote 'e gira è seme sera..." ("Quest'anno non si potrà dimenticare così facilmente, tanto sarà sempre sera") sintetizza perfettamente il periodo buio e difficile (la sera) che stava vivendo in quei mesi la popolazione campana.

Nonostante la voglia di riscatto ("... e' sempe 'ncuollo a voglia 'e dà'"), lo sconforto di una tragedia simile si ripercuote nelle piccole e grandi cose ("... ma i' mo' nun 'ngarro cchiù, nun 'ngarro cchiù a sunà").

Una canzone contro la guerra. Il testo, che ho composto di getto, racconta il rifiuto, da parte di chi non la conosce, vile o incosciente, di credere alla miseria e al dolore che le guerre portano con sé. La melodia, da me composta, è stata poi armonizzata insieme al Maestro e amico Maurizio Pulina.

Nota sulla lingua: Il turritano (turritanu), comunemente chiamato sassarese (sassaresu), è una lingua romanza nata, secondo alcune teorie, come lingua franca intorno al XII secolo da una base toscano-corsa, evolutasi poi autonomamente con influenze liguri, catalane, spagnole e soprattutto sardo logudoresi, tanto da essere oggi considerato, analogalmente al vicino gallurese, come un idioma di transizione sardo-còrso.

Tra un mese inizieranno i lavori per la costruzione di un muro anti-migranti al confine orientale polacco lungo 180 km, alto 6 metri per un costo di 350 milioni di Euro. Le facilities del fortilizio si sprecano: nastro spinato, termocamere, sensori di movimento a iosa, presidiato H24 da decine di migliaia di guardie. Chi bazzica l’odierna scena indie si stupirà forse della modernità di questa voce, una modernità fatta di coraggio e di grande libertà creativa, del tutto lontana sia dal bel canto sia dagli stilemi del rock italico dell’epoca, per volgersi invece a quanto di più stimolante veniva dall’estero. Prendete, a controprova, “Le mosche non hanno anima” che originariamente chiudeva il lato A: si tratta di un pezzo duro, di forte denuncia politico-sociale, che si muove sostanzialmente su due accordi, con un esplicito riferimento musicale al Lou Reed di “Walk in the wild side” e un testo di indubbia forza espressiva.

The Jamaicans With Tommy McCook – Peace And Love

The song "Peace and Love" (Treasure Isle Records # TI-7037) is a collaboration between The Jamaicans (a rocksteady group formed in 1966 in Jamaica) and Tommy McCook (reggae artist, born 3 March 1927, La Habana, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba, died 5 May 1998, Atlanta, Georgia, USA).

It took a strong anti-war position, saying that the leaders were focused on war, but that the "people of the world" want "love peace and love". It pleaded with the government: "don't send my brothers to Vietnam", and looked at the impact on families: "don't let...mothers mourn, don't let my father know the pain". Released in Kingston, Jamaica.

Vietnam War Song Project

The song "I'm an Australian – 20 Years Old" also featured in The Vietnam Songbook, although no recording from the time has been found yet. The song took a comedic approach to a 21 year old caught-up in major court case for resisting the draft. It started out with the man going down to the barracks, lighting a cigarette, and his "call-up papers accidently caught on fire". Misinterpreted as a deliberate act, the "C.N.D. embraced me" - a reference to the protest group the Committee for Nuclear Disarmament, while the other side "called me a traitor".

Clem Parkinson, contemporary folk artist, born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He wrote the song "Kevin Conway", about the first Australian casualty in the Vietnam War.

Conway, born 11 December 1928, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, was a Warrant Officer Class 2, with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam. He was killed in action (K.I.A.), in the Battle of Nam Dong, South Vietnam on 6 July 1964, aged 35 years, buried at Kranji War Cemetery in Singapore. His remains were repatriated to Australia 2nd June 2016.

Tex Morton, a country artist born Robert William Lane on 30 August 1916 in Nelson, New Zealand. He died 23 July 1983 in Sydney, NSW, Australia. He released several records under the nickname The Yodelling Boundary Rider.

The song "21st Birthday" dealt with the Vietnam War, looking at the home front perspective, of the parents of a soldier killed in action (K.I.A.). The song was released in 1967 on single: 21st Birthday (Columbia (EMI) # DO-4785).

The song told of the soldier's friends arriving at his parents house to celebrate his 21st birthday, unaware of what had happened. A closer look at the shelf with letters and "you'll see a draft card... the nice letter and the medal they sent". The father concluded that: "our boy full of love has died now of hate" - which perhaps leans towards the anti-war side of the debate.

Dal loro unico LP, Black Monk Time, proviene questa Complication che al ritmo di una marcia militare accusa il governo di madare la gente a morire in guerra. Fedeli al nome del gruppo, i cinque si presentavano in scena vestiti da monaci.

(Is a Going on in Washington)" (Nugget Records # NR 247), by Bob Withers, is narrated from the position of a soldier in the war zone, who feared for his life: "here I sit in Vietnam...sent half around this world to die". Is this song criticising US politicians over the Vietnam War, or is it an attack on the protest movement? It included the line: "All these people were our friends not long ago, they fought Hitler, Mussolini, and Tōjō" - this could be a reference to the Vietnamese - a former World War Two ally, who had helped the US against Adolf Hitler (Germany), Benito Mussolini (Italy), and Tōjō (Japan)? Or perhaps it is an attack on the draft card burners and protester in Washington (as it included the line: "some guys have burnt their draft cards up at home, don't send them here") - who may have backed or agreed with the cause of the Second World War,... What happened when Shane MacGowan met Ronnie Drew back in the ’90s? Well, a few things happened, but here’s one thing ye might not know about. Let’s take a trip back through time, but not one that will bore you.

Back in the day, Ronnie Drew was makin’ a solo record called Dirty Rotten Shame. He was short of a few songs, so he contacted the ol’ legend himself, Shane MacGowan. Shane sent him a song he’d written, called The Dunes.

Like most of MacGowan’s work, it’s a beautiful piece of music, and it shines a light on the ugly side of life. On one of Ireland’s toughest times. The Famine of 1845-52.

Un brano atipico per il mondo musicale di Cisco ispirato da una canzone dell’amico rapper Marco Benati, in arte Benna, dedicata al proprio figlio. Ha come riferimento le nuove generazioni, Cisco parla a loro, ai più giovani, quasi fossero dei figli. Il personaggio del titolo lo conoscono tutti, è il grande “Leonard Nimoy”, il capitan Spock di Star Trek, a cui è attribuita la frase «Tieni le orecchie alte Leonard Nimoy perché i costumi li hanno sia i pagliacci che gli eroi». Un ottimo consiglio per navigare nel mondo della vita.

Il secondo brano dedicato alle nuove generazioni, in cui si mette a confronto ciò che abbiamo ricevuto e ciò che lasciamo a chi verrà dopo di noi. Mansell composed the song "The S.S. Vancouver", although no recording has been identified at the moment. The lyrics of this song featured in The Vietnam Songbook published in 1969, and compiled by Barbara Dane and Irwin Silber (founders of Paredon Records) - containing 100+ Vietnam War protest songs, 9 of which came from Australia & New Zealand.



According to the notes in the book:

"this song was written in 1965 on the arrival of the U.S.S. Vancouver in Australia".

The title dropped the "U", leaving just the "S.S.", a reference to the infamous Nazi paramilitary group. The U.S.S. Vancouver (LPD-2) was an amphibious transport dock, commissioned on 11 May 1963, and deployed at various point in the Vietnam War. According to the album notes, written by Edgar Walter (1965), the first song "Twenty Summers" was composed by Mona Brand: "Twenty Summers: Mona Brand's words were written as a comment on the recent decision to conscript young Australians for military service overseas. But they are a protest not so much against that decision in itself, as against all warfare.
The melody is by Gary Shearston".

Mona Brand was a theatre playwright, who taught English in Hanoi with her husband Len Fox in the 1950s.

It told the story of a young man, 20 years old, drafted to war: "Johnny is called for a soldier today". His father died in a previous war: "rain in the jungle when Johnny was born, the day that his father lay dying at dawn".

It was written in Pajala during the 1930 - 1931 roadworkers' strike. The first labor union of Pajala was established in 1931. In the autumn of 1931, after the National Road Administration had refused to negotiate on wages, the workers called for a strike that continued until spring 1932. LA ZINOVIE
est le voyage d’exploration en Zinovie, entrepris par Marco Valdo M. I. et Lucien l’âne, à l’imitation de Carl von Linné en Laponie et de Charles Darwin autour de notre Terre et en parallèle à l’exploration du Disque Monde longuement menée par Terry Pratchett.
La Zinovie, selon Lucien l’âne, est ce territoire mental où se réfléchit d’une certaine manière le monde. La Zinovie renvoie à l’écrivain, logicien, peintre, dessinateur, caricaturiste et philosophe Alexandre Zinoviev et à son abondante littérature.

Love Canal è un quartiere della città di Niagara Falls sorto su di un canale artificiale (il Love Canal, costruito nel 1890 dall'imprenditore William T. Love) adibito dal 1920 a discarica di rifiuti urbani ed industriali, definitivamente interrato nel 1953. Nel 1954 iniziò la lottizzazione con la costruzione delle scuole e del quartiere; solo alla fine degli anni settanta venne resa pubblica la contaminazione a cui erano esposti i residenti e dal 1978 iniziò l'evacuazione dell'area, che fu definitivamente chiusa nel 2004 in seguito ad un'opera di confinamento e bonifica.

W.M.A. sta per White American Male (maschio bianco americano), una categoria evidentemente privilegiata negli Stati Uniti. Secondo il censimento del 2013 il reddito medio dei neri è solo il 56% di quello dei bianchi. Inoltre i neri hanno una probabilità sei volte più alta di finire in carcere e un afroamericano maschio su sei è stato in prigione almeno una volta.

Queste differenze si riflettono anche sul trattamento diverso che la polizia riserva agli afroamericani. Vedder racconta l'episodio che ha ispirato il testo: uscendo dallo studio di registrazione vestito male e sporco, si ritrova con un amico nero, che invece era vestito in maniera impeccabile, ma i poliziotti che passano per un controllo ignorano completamente Vedder in quanto bianco, mentre infastidiscono l'amico trattandolo come un criminale.
