Between 1962 and 1994 students in Swedish compulsory schools (grades 1 - 9) were graded on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest grade. The scale was intended to follow a normal distribution on a national level, with a mean of 3 and a standard deviation of 1.

This song was originally written for Nynningen's 1974 musical De hängdas revolution based on B. Traven's 1936 novel Die Rebellion der Gehenkten (The Rebellion of the Hanged) that describes the hard life of Mexican Indians working in mahogany lumber camps in the early 20th century. The title of the novel refers to a cruel way of punishing those who didn't meet their lumber quota by hanging them upside-down in the jungle overnight while the insects fed on their skin.

Performed by Björn Afzelius with slightly altered lyrics and titled Skyll inte på mig (Don't Blame Me) it was first released on Afzelius's 1994 album Nära dig (Close to You). Performed by Mikael Wiehe and Björn Afzelius, the song was recorded in Swedish Malmö in 1993 and released under the title Bofors on their 2004 album Björn Afzelius & Mikael Wiehe 1993 - Malmöinspelningarna. For Afzelius, this album was a posthuomous release as he passed away in 1999.
