Dopo una breve esperienza musicale negli anni '60 Eugene McDaniels sfornò due dischi Outlaw (1970) e Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse (1971), dischi decisamente troppo politicizzatie antiamericani, tanto che si narra che il vicepresidente americano Spiro Agnew stesso chiamò la Atlantic per ritirare i dischi in commercio.
Il risultato che McDaniels finì nel dimenticatoio e la sua carriera sostanzialmente finita

A short news once read in the newspaper Le peuple Breton: an elderly farmhand laborer, François Quenechou, was found dead of hunger and cold in a field in the Beauce plain , one cold winter morning. On this news, and on the scant news read about that poor man who had died of hardships in complete destitution, Gilles Servat built in 1975 this Ballad of François Quenechou, a moving song of exile, loneliness and poverty. The song, included in the album La Liberté brille dans la nuit (“Freedom shines in the night”), is a true song of public indictment set to various instruments so as to evoke the cracking of ice and the inexorable snowfalling; it is rightly considered among Gilles Servat's best pieces. "Sommaren 1989 slog Kinas militär till mot sina egna landsmän, och den totalitära staten visade sitt rätta ansikte. Över tusen studenter mördades, för att de ropade på frihet.
"In the summer of 1989 China's military fought against their own countrymen, and the totalitarian state showed its real face. Over a thousand students were murdered, because they cried out for freedom."

Nell'EP "Black in Deep Red, 2014"
Canzone ispirata alle proteste seguite all'omicidio del diciottenne nero Michael Brown, avvenuto il 9 agosto 2014 a Ferguson, Missouri, ad opera dell'agente di polizia Darren Wilson, un bianco. Sulle prime la corte di Saint Louis decise di non incriminare nemmeno l'assassino, facendo ricorso ad una procedura molto sommaria, irrituale, che scatenò la rabbia della comunità nera. Alle proteste lo Stato oppose non solo la polizia in assetto antisommossa ma addirittura squadre speciali SWAT pesantemente armate, militarizzando la città e dichiarando il coprifuoco.
Poi l'inchiesta fu avocata dalle autorità federali, le quali comunque sentenziarono che Wilson aveva agito per legittima difesa.
Curiosamente però la città di Ferguson ha accettato di pagare un risarcimento di 1,5 milioni di dollari alla famiglia di Brown...

Nell'album "Ghost Rider" che giustamente si apre con la cover della mitica "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" scritta nel 1949 da Stan Jones.
Un brano southern rock sicuramente antimilitarista ma in chiave antifederale, con esplicito invito a non pagare le tasse perchè contribuiscono a finanziare le guerre degli USA... Chissà se veniva prima il tipico sentimento antigovernativo sudista od un autentico spirito pacifista?!?
