L’artiste de 41 ans a publié vendredi 24 août 2023 une chanson intitulée "Roosarito", qui signifie "ton voile" en farsi. Mehdi Yarrahi, chanteur pop iranien, a été arrêté le lundi 28 août par la police, après qu’il a sorti cette chanson contre le port obligatoire du voile. La veille, Mizan Online, le site du pouvoir judiciaire iranien, avait annoncé qu'une procédure judiciaire avait été ouverte contre le chanteur "après la sortie d'une chanson illégale qui défie la morale et les coutumes de la société islamique".

Il testo della canzone descrive il saluto ideale di un condannato a morte alla madre. È dispiaciuto di non poterle dare l’ultimo saluto e che saranno altri a informarla della morte di suo figlio. Va incontro alla morte con convinzione. Da alcuni passaggi si intuisce che il suo martirio è una scelta di fede, da credente sciita, ma si estendono a tutti gli attivisti e militanti quali che sia la loro convinzione, tutti uniti contro le violenze del tiranno.
La musica è di Mehdi Yarrahi , cantautore e attivista , anche lui in stato di detenzione per avere pubblicato la canzone روسریتو / Roosarito.

Il velo in Iran
روسری [rousary] , hijab in arabo, è il velo che le donne musulmane debbono portare sul capo in pubblico. L’obbligo di indossare il velo non è strettamente sancito nel Corano che in poche sure ne fa menzione per raccomandarlo. È invece prescritto dalla dottrina islamica con qualche differenza tra le varie scuole. Sulla sua obbligatorietà non c’è un consenso univoco in relazione al significato attribuito al simbolo. All’esigenza di separatezza, che richiama la funzione del sacro in altre culture, si sono sovrapposti in seguito altri significati come ad esempio il carattere identitario in senso antioccidentale. Attualmente i paesi che impongono per legge alle donne l’uso del velo in pubblico sono l’Iran e l’Afghanistan.
