La traduzione della Lisistrata di Ettore Romagnoli, uno dei massimi grecisti italiani di tutti i tempi (ma che era dotato anche del "wit" necessario per tradurre Aristofane) fu pubblicata nel 1925 nella collana dei "Poeti Greci tradotti da Ettore Romagnoli" per le edizioni UTET di Torino. Si trova nel volume IV con le illustrazioni di A. De Carolis. La traduzione è ancora utilizzata nelle moderne rappresentazioni teatrali della Lisistrata.

This translation was published in 1912 by The Athenian Society (London), and is therefore in the public domain. The translator kept himself scrupulously anonymous but is rumored to be Oscar Wilde, who was an excellent Greek scholar and who died in 1900 under scandal (his books were being burned).

Depuis que le monde est monde, l’Inquisition brûle les gens ; plus au Moyen Âge qu’à d’autres époques, mais de toute façon, on les brûle. Les gens brûlés se comptent par milliers, si pas davantage. Cela dépendait de ceux auxquels il plaît d’enquêter, le phénomène serait toujours très répandu. Il n’est heureusement pas le cas chez nous actuellement, car un fort mouvement d’opinion s’y oppose.

mio nonno, Capodistria 1888, ha combattuto in Galizia ed è stato fatto prigioniero dai russi - di cui ha sempre parlato bene in riferimento alla prigionia - e la sua esperienza è stata così forte da ammutolirlo di fronte a noi ragazzi perchè evidentemente nel cercare una risposta alle nostre domande gli tornava in mente l'orrore provato.
come se non bastasse, il susseguente regime fascista gli ha mandato in guerra gli unici due figli maschi ed è stato un caso se uno è tornato a casa dopo l'8 settembre ed è sopravvissuto alle vicende seguenti e l'altro è uscito vivo dal campo di concentramento in germania.
Mi sembra anche troppo per un uomo solo, anche se oggi (2016!!) assistiamo a cose ben più orrende.

They were even angrier when Lucey recorded The Road Is Much Longer at 3rd Ear Records. With “instigating” songs such as Lungile Tabalaza and You Only Need Say Nothing, it was sent straight to the censors at the Publications Board.
The former was about a young man who “jumped” to his death from the fifth floor at the branch’s offices in Port Elizabeth.
The latter had lyrics such as “And there’s teargas at the funeral of a boy gunned down by cops/ They say that there are too many mourners and this is where it stops/ And the moral of the episode — Is to do what you are told”.
To impress his bosses, Erasmus went to work even before the censors. In between planting bombs, harassing Winnie Mandela and about 500 other transgressions, the overzealous cop focused his attention on Lucey.
He called WEA Records (they distributed LPs for 3rd Ear Records) and told them the... (continua)
