Lanegan si avventura in un territorio incentrato su un personaggio e accenna una critica sociale in "War Memorial", una canzone narrata in prima persona da un soldato caduto. In questo pezzo Lanegan canta in un registro più alto del suo solito aspro baritono. Gli orrori della guerra sono rappresentati con immagini che sembrano tratte da "Niente di nuovo sul fronte occidentale".

Un triste assolo di uno strumento a fiato, un sassofono o una tromba, suona in sottofondo un tributo al soldato morto. Insomma uno dei pezzi più commoventi dell'album, una canzone che sembra influenzata dall'album monotematico di PJ Harvey Let England Shake.
