Music by David J. Potter
Album: Requiem for a Lost Cause (E.P.)

"..As for the song - it's 9 minutes long approx. When David first played the melody of "A Soldier's Lament" it reminded Peter of his own father being caught up in the War and inspired the lyrics for "Unknown Soldier's Song".
These two songs seemed to naturally merge into one piece of work which we have named "Requiem for a Lost Cause".

Hope you enjoy. Many thanks." (David J. Potter and P.J. Layman)
This is the Unknown Soldier's Song
That rolls across the sands of time,
The battlefield memories
And blades of steel -that make you weep,
This is the Unknown Soldier's Song,
Yeah, the Unknown Soldier's Song..

They are not prisoners of tormented souls,
With minds grown numb -on trails grown cold
Dreams and forget-me-nots –A cruel joke
For all the folk – who never made it home
This is the Unknown Soldier's Song,
Yeh, the Unknown Soldier's Song..

This is the Unknown Soldier's Song,
Yeah the Unknown Soldier's Song..

It does not matter – now for we all die alone
It does not matter now if we were once friend or foe,
We are all brothers – someone's lover someone's son.
This is the Unknown Soldier's Song...

For as long as the shimmering trumpet sighs
For as long as church bells – toll away our lives
For as long as poppies dance – I'll be coming home
For as long as love can last -like a rolling stone
So wipe the tears away
We can live in peace today
This is the Unknown Soldier's Song...
