Cycling to the Sunset on the Streets of Saigon

I think of all the handsome boys
I see them standing here
waving as I pass them by
and shedding bitter tears

What became of all their dreams?
Where have their young lives gone?
Nothing is what it seems
cycling to the sunset – on the streets of Saigon

And what was it all for?
Why did so many die
Who gained from all the pain?
and who was left to cry?

And the boys who fought that war
either died or died inside
They couldn’t fight no more
and politicians lied ..

I see their smiling faces
but I know that they are ghosts
Ghosts of another time
the ghosts we see the most

And in their eyes are tears
that serve to drive me on
cryin' in the rain
cycling to the sunset – on the streets of Saigon ..

And what was it all for?
Why did so many die
Who gained from all the pain?
and Who was left to cry?

And the boys who fought that war
either died or died inside
They couldn’t fight no more
and politicians lied ..

I know the years have passed by
but the ghosts are still the same
always asking why
and they’re calling out my name

What can I do to ease the pain
after so many years so long
cycling and crying in the rain
cycling to the sunset – on the streets of Saigon

And what was it all for?
Why did so many die
Who gained from all the pain?
and who was left to cry?

And the boys who fought that war
either died or died inside
They couldn’t fight no more
and politicians lied,

They died ..
Politicians lied
and boys died ..
They all lied ..
