Lullaby for a Soldier’s Daugther

Cecilia Bravo Mittmann
Lingua: Inglese

The moon high up may not hear
as you go to sleep and call for Dad.

I must sing you a lullaby
to dry your tears, to make you smile.
He called you pumpkin,
tucked you into bed,
rocked you in his arms, at the cadence
of the Stars and Stripes.

Daddy’s little girl must be brave now.
Only your love will keep him strong.
He called you gorgeous
and tickled your head; he kissed
your toes, gave you piggy back rides
little fingers holding his ears.

Daddy’s little girl talks to God now.
We’ll say a prayer for love and peace.
We’ll go to sleep now.

When morning comes,
I’ll braid your hair with
bright yellow ribbons.
Daddy’s little girl can’t lose her smile
for the happy day when he’ll come back.
