Sylvain Maréchal (1750-1803), scrittore, poeta e rivoluzionario francese, fu amico di François-Noël Babeuf, più noto come Gracco Babeuf (1760-1797) e ne condivise le idee egualitariste e, potremmo quasi dire, proto-comuniste. Tra le sue opere (molte presunte perchè lui spesso non le firmava) ci sarebbe anche un “Catéchisme du curé Meslier”, prosecuzione de Il testamento del parroco Meslier che abbiamo già incontrato su queste pagine...
I radicali come Babeuf e Maréchal erano convinti che le istanze principali della Rivoluzione francese fossero già state tradite e che un nuovo sistema comunque non egualitario si stesse affermando a scapito del popolo, grazie soprattutto all'azione del Direttorio termidorista, che pose fine al Terrore eliminando Robespierre e i suoi ma avrebbe poi finito col consegnare la Francia nelle mani di un Napoleone...

I'm not some unduly political loudmouth and I'm certainly not saying you have to swallow this pill, but for a moment, just think about that wall and what it means to you... As for me, I refuse to be afraid and I will continue to believe that love, understanding, and compassion have the ability to trump fear and evil, which often times go hand in hand, any day. Più recentemente il compositore americano Mark Nichols ne ha offerta una sua versione polifonica basata su musiche tradizionali georgiane.
Dall’opera teatrale “Der kaukasische Kreidekreis” (“Il cerchio di gesso del Caucaso”), andata in scena per la prima volta nel 1948 negli USA, con la traduzione inglese di Eric Bentley, ammiratore ed amico di Brecht.
“Questa di Brecht è una rielaborazione di un'antica leggenda orientale, che l'autore riprende e ambienta nel Caucaso. Nel regno scoppia una rivolta, il re viene ucciso, e la regina, madre di un neonato, non esita ad abbandonare il piccolo preferendogli il suo prezioso guardaroba e i suoi preziosi accessori. Après Dachau Express, qui raconte l’histoire d’un déserteur de l’armée mussolinienne et du Rêve de Guillaume, premier tome des Histoires d’Allemagne, voici un autre livre de Marco Valdo M.I. : il s’intitule Le Rêve de Weimar et couvre les années 1920 à 1932, les années où une République a tenté de survivre aux poussées nationalistes. Elle connut ses heures paisibles et surtout, d’énormes vicissitudes qui la conduisirent à sa perte.
Ce qu’il faut absolument dire ici, ce qui mérite d’être dit et souligné ici, c’est que sans les Chansons contre la Guerre (C.C.G.), cette édition papier n’aurait sans doute jamais existé puisque toutes les chansons et tous les textes (ou presque) qui y figurent viennent en droite ligne des C.C.G. Ils y ont été conçus et ils y ont grandi ; l’auteur y a aussi appris à les faire.

Una canzone nata nei gruppi giovanili antinazisti noti come Edelweißpiraten.
Il modello melodico è quello dell'“Argonnerwaldlied”, una canzone militare risalente alla Grande Guerra, il cui schema venne poi preso in prestito dai militanti comunisti, poi dai nazisti e infine proprio dai nostri “Pirati della stella alpina”. Ma il brano è un vero e proprio pot-pourri, con riferimenti a canzoni popolari (come la settecentesca “Wahre Freundschaft soll nicht wanken”) e canti di lavoro (come quello dei primi anni del 900 intitolato “Immer bunt sind wir gekleidet”, o “Das Wolle lied”)

Da allora gli artisti che l'hanno interpretata non si contano: Carter Family, Lead Belly, , Pete Seeger, Joan Baez e tantissimi altri noti e meno noti.
Dato il titolo simile, il contesto geografico ed il tema comuni, quello del lavoro dei negri nella Virginia della seconda metà dell'800, viene spesso confusa e mescolata con un altro standard della musica popolare americana, John Henry
Il testo che propongo è quello reperito sul blog Kidnapping, Murder and Mayhem ed attribuito alla Carter Family che lo incise nel 1928.

It is also the name of a prayer of preparation and humility, addressed to God, sung by the cantor on behalf of the congregation on Rosh Hashanah. At the Oct 13, 2016 L.A., press event, Leonard talked about using "hineni" in the lyrics of his new album's title song to reference a "willingness to serve" that is - in the right circumstances - universal to humanity.

Devo aggiungere che il gigantesco "lavoro" effettuato dai nazisti nella sistematica eliminizione degli ebrei di Vilnius non sarebbe stato possibile senza la stretta collaborazione delle "Ypatingasis būrys", le squadre speciali della polizia lituana (che i polacchi chiamavano semplicemente "Strzelcy Ponarscy", "I fucilatori di Ponary"), composte da una nutrita schiera di volontari provenienti dalla Lietuvos Šaulių Sąjunga, un'organizzazione paramilitare nazionalista, fascista e antisemita.
Ma anche senza ricorrere a polizie e forze paramilitari locali, in tutto l'Est Europa - e fin dai decenni precedenti la seconda guerra mondiale, e anche dopo - furono molto spesso comuni cittadini, i carnefici della porta accanto, a fare a pezzi i loro vicini ebrei, come documenta l'impressionante sequenza fotografica del pogrom di Kaunas, sempre in Lituania, del giugno 1941 realizzata dal fotografo della Wermacht Wilhelm Gunsilius.

Please Settle in Viet Nam
Hopkins recorded the song "Please Settle in Viet Nam" in Berkeley, California, under the direction of Chris Strachwitz (the founder of the Californian label Arhoolie Records), on 20 May 1969, for the session which produced the album Lightnin' (Poppy Records # PYS-60,002). But the song did not appear on the album. Strachwitz released "Please Settle in Viet Nam" on this single (Joliet # 205) and then later on the album Lightning Hopkins in Berkeley (Arhoolie # 1063). (1) Hopkins wanted to see "an ending to the war" and called on the government to settle the Vietnam issue. It also included a little twist. Hopkins said that his girlfriend actually had a man fighting in the war, and that he hoped "he'll stay forever" in the army, because he did not "want to leave that girl". This idea is similar to the "jody" theme - a mythical man in blues and jazz tunes who seduced the wives and girlfriends... (Continues)

Sands o Barry Horne) è la possibile infiltrazione nei movimenti di liberazione o di emancipazione sociale. Se in Italia è relativamente nota la figura dell’infiltrato Mario Merlino nel movimento anarchico, non va dimenticato che elementi legati all’Aginter Presse si infiltrarono (con false credenziali “maoiste” e antimperialiste) nel movimenti di liberazione delle colonie portoghesi per eliminarne i dirigenti (v. Mondlane e Cabral, forse anche la dissidente sudafricana R. First). Da segnalare poi il ruolo dei neofascisti (NAR, ma non solo) a fianco dei falangisti maroniti contro i palestinesi. Non esattamente il massimo della coerenza da parte di soggetti che in Italia si inventavano sigle “terceriste” come OLP... (Continues)

Album: "Sex with an X"
Dall'album del ritorno dell'irriverente duo scozzese che aveva pubblicato un solo album negli anni 80 e che aveva fatto innamorare Kurt Cobain. I Nirvana portarono al successo la loro "Jesus want me for a sunbeam", la parodia di un classico inno religioso.
Anche questa nuova canzone prende di mira le religioni che sanno solo fare "a chi ce l'ha più grosso" (si parla di dio, naturalmente) scatenando troppe inutili guerre.
