Una struggente ninna nanna per tutti i picciriddi dentro e fuori di noi. Nel concerto di stasera Giulia la ha dedicata a tutti i bambini che in questo momento sono sotto le bombe, e credo che sia un motivo sufficiente per inserirla qui.
Tutte e tutti abbiamo una picciridda o un picciriddo dentro o fuori di noi da cullare e consolare, tutti qualche volta abbiamo bisogno di sentirci dire che non è colpa nostra e che il mondo non ci merita, tutti almeno una volta nella vita ci troviamo a desiderare l’amore semplice e la tenerezza di questa questa ninna che ho scritto per me stessa, e che parla in palermitano. Perché ci sono espressioni e immagini che solo la lingua palermitana riesce a restituirmi e che letteralmente faccio fatica a tradurre in italiano, come “lievaci manu”, che in italiano significa “lascia perdere”, ma in realtà è molto, molto più di questo, come l'amore che provo in questa canzone che è molto di più dell'amore.

Tikkun Olam!
Negli scorsi anni il messaggio della "Laudato sì" di papa Francesco scosse il mondo, tanto che ne nacque un movimento globale che silenziosamente sta crescendo!
Tikkun Olam allora quale contributo all'impegno per la salvaguardia del creato. La complessità che caratterizza il nostro tempo si può cogliere nell'intreccio che ho provato a ricostruire. Per questo "Tikkun Olam": antica esortazione ebraica a "riparare il creato", letteralmente.
Il 7 ottobre 2023, il brano era già finito, ma... fermai, come tutti, incredulo per quel che accadeva e senza fiato per quel che accadde dopo!
Sulle prime pensai ad aggiungere l'equivalente arabo, poi mi convinsi che no; la radice ebraica non appartiene soltanto a Israele: un'indicazione tradizionale non comporta necessariamente una "scelta di campo".
Piuttosto... che non resti canzone: Tikkun Olam!

'31 Depression Blues - E. Sturgill - 1964
Ed Sturgill was born in Appalachia, Virginia in 1910 and worked as a miner when he was young. This song, which he wrote, addresses many of the mining issues at the time such as cheating done at scales by mine operators (miners were paid by the ton) the illegal use of script for payment and the efforts to organize the UMW*. It was the passage of the NRA ** that secured union representation but, as the song mentions, it was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court (“and the big Supreme Court judge then he said it wasn’t right”). Sturgill did not get around to record the song until 1964, one year before his death.

Ciao! Grazie come sempre per il vostro lavoro prezioso. Vorrei segnalarvi due problemi che vedo nella traduzione che proponete qui. Il più importante e' che "pa'" non significa padre ma e' una abbreviazione colloquiale di "rapaz", cioè ragazzo, un modo di rivolgersi a un amico (un po' come a Napoli si usa "guaglio'"). E' interessante il fatto che sia una espressione usata solo in Portogallo e non in Brasile, quindi esprime una vicinanza e denota chiaramente gia' dal primo verso il fatto che l'autore brasiliano si stia rivolgendo a un amico in Portogallo senza nemmeno nominare il paese. Molti siti brasiliani che commentano il testo della canzone riportano questa spiegazione. Un'altra osservazione invece riguarda la traduzione di "sei quanto e' preciso navegar", che e' una citazione dai riferimenti stratificati. E’ un’elegia laica, non ci sono analogie con il Salmo 130 della Tanakh ( Canto dell’ascesa. Dalle profondità a te ho gridato, o Signore; Signore, ascolta la mia voce….), meglio noto nella cultura occidentale come De Profundis. Si notano i tratti distintivi dell’espressionismo tedesco e la percezione della tragedia imminente della Grande Guerra. Smarrimento, scetticismo e disperazione sono la cifra della composizione. Il paesaggio è la materia che vive di solitudine e alienazione.

Di nascita istriana, Ervino Pocar aveva sposato un’ebrea elbana e usava soggiornare a lungo all’Isola d’Elba (un motivo che me lo rende estremamente caro). Il comune di Marciana Marina gli ha intestato una via.

Wovoka (c. 1856 – September 20, 1932), also known as Jack Wilson, was the Paiute religious leader who founded a second episode of the Ghost Dance movement. Wovoka means "cutter" or "wood cutter" in the Northern Paiute language.
The Ghost Dance (Caddo: Nanissáanah, also called the Ghost Dance of 1890) is a ceremony incorporated into numerous Native American belief systems. According to the millenarian teachings of the Northern Paiute spiritual leader Wovoka (renamed Jack Wilson), proper practice of the dance would reunite the living with spirits of the dead, bring the spirits to fight on their behalf, end American Westward expansion, and bring peace, prosperity, and unity to Native American peoples throughout the region.

La Farge in fact loved to tell stories, as it seems about himself as well: he faked his native origins, although he did not fake his profound research and empathy for the fate of the native people. Yuval Taylor, cowriter with Hugh Baker of 'Faking It: The Quest for Authenticity in Popular Music' (Norton, 2007), came at least to that conclusion after having specifically researched the topic. Tematica simile alla traccia " Unemployment Stomp " del 1938 e a “ Black, Brown and White" del 1951 ( entrambe di Broonzy, v.pagine di CCG) la cui 3.a strofa dira':
“I went to an employment office,
I got a number and I got in line,
They called everybody's number,
but they never did call mine.”
La frustrazione , in quegli anni comune a molti altri suoi coetanei di colore ,di non riuscire a trovare un lavoro ,e la necessita' di trasferirsi altrove nella speranza di essere piu' fortunati.
Il protagonista si trova in una affollata sede di collocamento al lavoro paragonata con ironia ad una vasca di pesci rossi ( “…that old goldfish bowl “). e con un numero di chiamata evidentemente troppo alto per poter sperare che la sua richiesta di lavoro venisse accolta.

Il protagonista della canzone puo'essere sia un uomo che una donna.La seconda strofa infatti cita : " I'm just a bum woman " e "Lord,I'm just a poor boy ". E'comunque molto triste, è solo,allontanato da casa dal padre, solo il Signore puo' comprendere la sua drammatica situazione. Vive la sua quotidiana poverta' e solitudine di "homeless" con l'aggravante del colore della sua pelle , motivo per cui tutti lo abbandonano. Da ultimo implora il poliziotto che lo ha fermato di non portarlo via . Tristezza, poverta', abbandono dagli affetti familiari e pregiudizi razziali sono le parole piu' significative di tutta la composizione.
