Come dicevo nell'introduzione non parlo della Sicilia, perché non sono siciliano. Ne verrebbe una cosa non vera, di maniera, e lascio quindi la parola ai siciliani. Non sono neanche greco, ma con la Grecia ho ben maggiore consuetudine; e se, forse, una versione in italiano di questa canzone può servire soltanto alla comprensione, una versione greca è qualcos'altro. Promana dalla stessa aria, dallo stesso sole, e dalla stessa μοναξιά (cosa che Gian Piero Testa dovrebbe ben comprendere). Come se fosse a casa, credo. [RV]

Il commento al testo è al limite del grottesco. E' stancante leggere argomentazioni vuote come queste, dettate da un senso comune bonaccione, un po' "asino" e semplicione... da bambino goffo e un poco deficiente, diciamo (per puro buonismo). Mi piacerebbe che argomenti e iniziative per la pace avessero miglior sostanza.

Les gars de la vermine
Carissimo Alessandro,
Quelle belle idée de rappeler ces chansons de Résistance et de plus, celles de cet homme libre, fabuleusement sensible et intelligent que fut Pierre Dac. Grâce à toi et à tes recherches patientes et multilingues ou polyglottes, comme on voudra, je les connais enfin. Sois-en particulièrement remercié. Je ne connaissais pas ces gars de la vermine et je crois bien qu'on ne se serait pas entendus eux et moi .
Cela dit, tu connais notre goût et notre attention à Lucien l'âne et à moi pour les parodies et celle-ci en est une fameuse. Et quand il s'agit de parodies, j'aime assez la confronter à la scie originale, ici « Les Gars de la Marine », dont Pierre Dac encore lui fit, songeant sans doute à Roxane et à Cyrano, « Les Gars de la Narine »....

Scusate... "le Boche" e non "la Boche"...
"Boche" era un termine spregiativo per indicare i tedeschi, semplificato da "Alboche", ossia Allemand più "caboche", testa o cavolo... Credo che alla fine "Boche" fosse una suprema contrazione per dire "tedesco testa di cazzo"...

- hai tradotto "the slums got so much soul" come "che nei bassifondi ci sia tanta sofferenza" e invece io ho sempre creduto che quel verso si riferisse ai figli di papà radical-chic che credono che negli slums ci sia tanta "soul", nel senso di "spirito", "colore", che siano "cool", anche dal momento che il marmocchio ascolta "jazz etnico sullo stereo da 5 bigliettoni" comprato da papà...mi sbaglio?
- Dapprima pensavo che "right guard" si riferisse alla "guardia alta", nel senso che il pugilato o il wrestling da high school, da "bravi ragazzi", non è di nessuna utilità in Cambogia. Invece ho scoperto che Right Guard è la marca di un deodorante da uomo, e credo suoni un pò come da noi il Denim, "per l'uomo che non deve chiedere mai".
Comunque ancora bravissimo!

Danyèl Waro è un musicista e poeta bianco (bianchissimo, quasi albino) dell’isola di La Réunion, territorio francese d’oltremare (una colonia, insomma) a 700 Km ad est del Madagascar, dove la lingua ufficiale è il francese ma quella parlata dalla gente è il creolo reunionese. Ed è questa la lingua in cui si esprime anche Waro, massimo interprete e riscopritore dell’antico maloya, il canto-ritmo tradizionale dei tagliatori della canna da zucchero, un blues dalle radici africane, malgasce e indiane che i colonialisti francesi cercarono - e quasi vi riuscirono - di estirpare insieme alla particolare cultura di quella terra, uno spazio ristretto sperduto nell’oceano a cui nel tempo sono approdati africani, malgasci, indiani, europei, vietnamiti, malesi e cinesi.

In Francia, alla fine della prima guerra mondiale, il governo conservatore era convinto che la guerra, finita per i maschi, dovesse continuare per le donne, come se anche loro non avessero già pagato un altissimo tributo di sangue… Alle donne toccava ripopolare la madrepatria e guai a colei che si fosse sottratta al sacro compito! Così nel 1920 fu varata una legge che puniva severamente l’aborto così come ogni propaganda anticoncezionale. Col passare del tempo quella legge fu sempre più inasprita, nonostante si fosse rivelata fallimentare per l’incremento delle nascite e invece deleteria per l’aumento spropositato degli aborti clandestini e, in definitiva, per la salute delle donne. “The Big Dipper”, “Il Grande Mestolo”, è il nome che in America viene dato alla costellazione dell’Orsa Maggiore, il nostro “Grande Carro”.
Gli schiavi neri la chiamavano “The Drinking Gourd”, letteralmente “La Zucca per Bere”, con riferimento alle borracce fatte con zucche cave che venivano utilizzate per il trasporto dell’acqua durante i lunghi cammini. Erano le sue stelle ad orientare la loro fuga dagli Stati del sud verso la libertà.
Pare che “Follow the Drinking Gourd” fosse il canto preferito da Harriet Tubman, l’eroica “Mosè Nera”, quando nella prima metà dell’800 accompagnava nottetempo, lungo le segrete vie dell’Underground Railroad, i suoi fratelli nelle estenuanti marce verso gli Stati liberi del nord.

Si tratta di uno dei più famosi Negro Spirituals, reso celebre dall’esecuzione di Paul Robeson, poi registrato nel 1958 da Louis Armstrong.
All’inizio del XIX secolo gli schiavi afroamericani erano quasi tutti evangelizzati. Essi trasformarono ben presto gli inni battisti e metodisti in canti religiosi originali, i Negro Spirituals, in cui riecheggiavano le antiche sonorità africane. Si trattava di canti di grande “blue”, di grande tristezza, ma che parlavano anche di redenzione, di speranza e di vittoria sulla miseria e sulla schiavitù. Canti di protesta, insomma, nascosti dietro i versetti biblici e, per questo, tollerati o non compresi nella loro vera essenza dai padroni bianchi.

When I first started writing the songs for the SOMEBODY OVER THERE album, our conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan were very much a different story from what's happening now. Other than the soldiers of the 507th, whom we all got to know quite well, there weren't a lot of casualties. What we heard about in letters from "over there" was that the weather was too hot, there was never enough of anything to go around and tours of duty seemed to stretch on forever. Loved ones on both ends missed each other dearly.
Now, with the insurgency, hardly a day goes by we don't lose somebody over there. I felt that SOMEBODY OVER THERE should tell that part of the story also. I decided I wanted to tell it from the point of view of a child losing a parent, and to make the narrative make sense, I needed the soldier and the child to be of opposite sex. Il punto è: leggete il testo “dalle scuole ai quartieri alle fabbriche per confrontarsi / decidere insieme la lotta in assemblea.”, “come se capir la crisi voglia dire / che la crisi è risolta.”, “ma il fatto di avere la coscienza / che sei nella merda più totale / è l’unica sostanziale differenza / da un borghese normale.”.
