STEEL ROOTS | LES CHAÎNES D’ACIER |
| |
So much that my lips have been expelled from the vessel of song | Mes lèvres bannies de la nef du chant, |
torn are my whispers from my poetic soul | Les murmures arrachés de mon cœur, |
do not explore in my words the meanings of cheer and happiness | Pour ma nature riante, pour la joie et le bonheur, |
that man is the pain of sorrow in my joyful nature | L’homme est douleur et chagrin consternant. |
if you notice stars in the heart of my work | Mon travail cligne d’étoiles ; |
the tale is from my boundless dreams | Le conte mes rêves infinis dévoile. |
do not ask love because its inspiration is in your verse | Ne demandez pas l’amour, encore ; |
my amorous words hark back to death | Ses mots renvoient à la mort. |
the river shall flow at the foot of hope’s flower vines | L’espoir coule au pied des vignes, |
the music does not play to the rhythm of my teardrops | La musique achoppe au tempo de mes larmes, |
even if I am a daughter from the city of odes and sonnets | Je suis fille de la ville des sonnets et des odes. |
ill and naive were my untried poems | Malades et naïfs sont mes vers routiniers, |
my abandoned seedlings did not feel the gardener’s touch | Mes semis n’ont pas connu le jardinier. |
don’t expect much from my flowerets | N’attendez pas grand-chose de mes bourgeons, |
hand, feet and tongue entwined with steel roots | Main, pied, langue entre les chaînes d’acier, |
are written on the cover of these times, as is my mark | Sur le dos du temps, écrivent mon nom. |
