[1] Leonid Osipovich Utёsov [Леонид Осипович Утёсов] In the USSR was a very popular singer and actor born in Odessa. [2] Vera Mixajlovna Inber [Вера Михайловна Инбер] was a woman poet born in Odessa, jewish origin [3] Agasfer is the name of the “Wandering Jew”. According to the legend a Jew mocked Jesus during the crucifixion. He was condemned to walk until the second coming of Christ. [4] Diminutive form of Alexander as Alekos for the Greeks or Sandruccio for the Italians. Alexander Pushkin spent three years in Odessa. [5] The Russian text reports сжалься [sžal’sja] /pity. Rachmones is yiddish for pity ; hob[אָב ] / have. It seems therefore that the translator got the original text prior to the modifications occurred in the present available text. [Riccardo Gullotta] |
