Dall'album omonimo del '79 dei Kollaa Kestää, che riprende il titolo dal celeberrimo romanzo di Ernest Hemingway: significa infatti "Addio alle armi". Verrà fornita una traduzione della canzone appena possibile. [CCG/AWS Staff]
Tänään jaksan nousta seisomaan,
tänään jaksan itseäni katsoa,
en tarvitse enää peilejä,
en haarniskaa, joka kulkua vaikeuttaa.

Tänään aion lähteä maailmaan,
tänään tietäni kulkemaan,
eivät riitä enää maalaukset,
tahdon nähdä mitä on niiden takana.

Jäähyväiset valheille,
joihin uskottiin,
jäähyväiset puheille,
joilla synnit sovitettiin.

Jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää suojellaan,
jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää tuhotaan.

Kuten lintu on luotu lentämään,
on ihminen luotu onneen,
kun ei pelkää itseään,
ei pelkää myöskään elää elämää.

Maailma on salaisuuksia täynnä,
joka hetkessä asuu ikuisuus,
joka kadulla asuu ihminen
sisällään sanoja tuntemattomia.

Jäähyväiset laeille,
joihin maailma kahlittiin,
jäähyväiset rajoille,
joita liikaa pystytettiin.

Jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää suojellaan,
jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää tuhotaan.

Tänään jaksan nousta seisomaan,
tänään lähden maailmaan
omaa tietäni kulkemaan,
tahdon nähdä, mitä on seinien takana.

Tänään aloitan laulamaan,
tänään soitellen sotaan,
soitellen sotaan, jossa ei tarvitse
ketään vahingoittaa.

Jäähyväiset aseille,
joihin uskottiin,
jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla synnit sovitettiin.

Jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää suojellaan,
jäähyväiset aseille,
joilla elämää tuhotaan.

ADDIO ALLE ARMI

Oggi ci tengo a stare in piedi,
Oggi ci tengo a guardare me stesso,

in ogni attimo c'è eternità
in ogni strada c'è una persona
con dentro parole sconosciute

Addio alle leggi ,
con cui il mondo è stato incatenato,
addio ai confini
che sono stati eretti in eccesso.

Addio alle armi
con cui si protegge la vita,
Addio alle armi
con cui si distrugge la vita

Oggi ci tengo a stare in piedi,
Oggi me ne vado per il mondo
oggi camminerò per la mia strada,
Voglio vedere cosa c'è dietro le mura .

Oggi comincio a cantare,

Here's a link to a very different 1981 version of the song by Liisa Tavi:

And here another one:

As for the authors of the song, I would very much like to have the above information replaced by the following...

Musica / Music / Musique / Sävel: Kai Kivi
Testo / Lyrics / Paroles / Sanat: Jyrki Siukonen

...and Kollää Kestaa replaced by Kollaa Kestää.

Juha Rämö - 20/9/2018 - 22:38

The name of the band performing the song, Kollaa kestää (Kollaa will hold), refers to the Battle of Kollaa fought from December 7, 1939, to March 13, 1940, in then Finnish Karelia, north of Lake Ladoga, as a part of the Soviet-Finnish Winter War.

A FAREWELL TO ARMS 1)

Today, I can stand up again,
today, I can look at myself.
No longer will I need mirrors
nor a hampering armor.

Today, I'm going to set out for the world
to walk my own paths.
Paintings are no longer enough,
I want to see what's behind them.

Farewell to lies
we believed in,
farewell to words
we used to atone for our sins.

Farewell to arms
used to protect life,
farewell to arms
used to destroy life.

Just like a bird is created for flying
a human being is created for happiness.
Once you stop being afraid of yourself
you stop being afraid of living your life.

The world is full of secrets,
eternity dwells in every moment,
in every street dwells a human being
full of unknown words.

Farewell to laws
used to restrain the world,
farewell to borders
of which there are too many.

Farewell to arms
used to protect life,
farewell to arms
used to destroy life.

Today, I can stand up again,
today, I'll set out for the world
to walk my own paths,
to see what's behind the walls.

Today, I'll start singing,
today, I'll bring a knife to a gunfight
in order not to have to
harm anyone.

Farewell to arms
we believed in,
farewell to arms
we used to atone for our sins.

Farewell to arms
used to protect life,
farewell to arms
used to destroy life.
1) The Finnish title of the song, Jäähyväiset aseille, is the same as that of Ernest Hemingway's famous novel from 1929. Another Farewell to Arms is a poem by George Peele (1556–1596):

A Farewell to Arms

His golden locks Time hath to silver turn’d;
O Time too swift, O swiftness never ceasing!
His youth ’gainst time and age hath ever spurn’d,
But spurn’d in vain; youth waneth by increasing:
Beauty, strength, youth, are flowers but fading seen;
Duty, faith, love, are roots, and ever green.

His helmet now shall make a hive for bees;
And, lovers’ sonnets turn’d to holy psalms,
A man-at-arms must now serve on his knees,
And feed on prayers, which are Age his alms:
But though from court to cottage he depart,
His Saint is sure of his unspotted heart.

And when he saddest sits in homely cell,
He’ll teach his swains this carol for a song,—
‘Blest be the hearts that wish my sovereign well,
Curst be the souls that think her any wrong.’
Goddess, allow this agèd man his right
To be your beadsman now that was your knight.
