Một người già trong công viên
Một người điên trong thành phố
Một người nằm không hơi thở
Một người ngồi nghe bom nổ

Một người ngồi hai mươi năm
nhìn hoả châu đêm rực sáng
Đàn trẻ nhỏ quen bom đạn
Người Việt nằm với vết thương

Mẹ Việt nằm hai mươi năm
xương da mềm
đợi giờ sông núi thiêng
một màu vàng trên da thơm
nên giữ gìn màu lúa chín quê hương

Một ngày dài trên quê hương
Ngày Việt Nam hoang tàn quá
Một ruộng đồng trơ đất đỏ
Một đàn bò không luống cỏ

Một ngày dài trên quê hương
Người Việt Nam quên mình sống
Một ngục tù nuôi da vàng
Người Việt nằm nhớ nước non

Ngày thật dài trong âu lo
Rồi từng đêm bom đạn phá
Người Việt nhìn sao xa lạ
Người Việt nhìn nhau căm thù

Một ngục tù trên quê hương
Người Việt Nam quên nòi giống
Người từng ngày xây uất hận
Rồi từng ngày nát dấu bom

(Điệp khúc)

Mẹ Việt nằm hai mươi năm
xương da mềm
đợi giờ sông núi thiêng
một màu vàng trên da thơm
nên giữ gìn màu lúa chín quê hương

Một ngày dài trên quê hương
Bầy trẻ thơ nay đã lớn
Một người già lo âu nhìn
Người già chờ cơn gió lặng

Một người ngồi hai mươi năm
Cuộc buồn vui ly rượu đắng
Người Việt nào da không vàng
Mẹ Việt nào nhớ xác con...

(Điệp khúc)
Mẹ Việt nào nhớ xác con...
Mẹ Việt nào nhớ xác con...

La versione inglese di Nguyễn Vũ Thành:
A LONG DAY ON MOTHERLAND

An old man in the park
A madman in city
A man lies without a breath
A man sits, hears bomb's sound

A man sits for twenty years
see flares shine the night
Children flock get used to bomb (and bullet)
Viet people lie with wounds

Viet mother lies (for) twenty years
Bone, skin soften
waiting the country's sacred hour
the yellow on fragrant skin
so conserve ripening-rice color of motherland

A long day on motherland
Vietnam day is so devastated
An empty field with red soil
A cow herd, no grass bed

A long day in motherland
Viet people forget living
A prison nurses the yellow
Viet people miss their land

Day is so long in worry
Every night, bombs destroy
Viet people look so strange
Viet people look (each other) with hatred

A prison on motherland
Vietnam men forget their race
Day by day, build resent
Then each day, smash with bomb (signs)

(Refrain)

Viet mother lies (for) twenty years
Bone, skin soften
waiting the sacred hour of country
the yellow on fragrant skin
so conserve ripening-rice color of motherland

A long day on motherland
Children band now grows up
An old folk looks anxiously
He waits winds to die down

A man sits for twenty years
Sorrow and joy, a bitter glass of wine
Viet's skin is no longer yellow
Viet mother misses (her) son's corpse...

(Refrain)
Viet mother misses (her) son's corpse...
Viet mother misses (her) son's corpse...

(fading)
