ON THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER

People, listen to a sad story,
What I'm going to sing to you will boggle your mind,
What I'm going to tell you is very sad,
Don't let your hearts despise the beggar,

On 1st of September of the memorable year,
The enemy from a neighbouring country attacked Poland.
They particularly disliked our Warsaw,
Our Beloved Warsaw, you are a bloody town.

You used to be beautiful, rich, wonderful,
But today what is left is ruins.
Churches destroyed, houses burnt down,
Where are the hurt people supposed to find shelter?

The bombs are falling down from the sky, the people lack bread,
We will die not only because of the bombs but of starvation.
The bombs are falling down, from dusk to dawn,
There is not enough water to put down the fire.

Churches destroyed, houses burnt down,
Where are the starving people supposed to find shelter?
A mother is seeking her son, loudly calling God,
She's begging for rescue, looking out for the enemy.

When the miserable Warsaw crumbled into ruin,
This miserable Warsaw had to surrender.
It did defend itself as long as three weeks anyway!
The Lord will surely find the way to punish the enemy for their crimes!

What I'm singing here for you is unbelievable,
This is the end of my story now.
Listen, people, God's grace is with us,
We will rebuild Poland, from the mountains to the sea.
