Les Crêtes de Lucanie

Les Crêtes de Lucanie
Les Crêtes de Lucanie

Canzone léviane – Les Crêtes de Lucanie – Marco Valdo M.I. – 2009

(Continues)

The War Without A Name

The War Without A Name
[2001]
Album: A Moving Feast
Lyrics and music by Bruce Watson

Bruce writes:
"Inspired by the work of historian Henry Reynolds, who calculated the figure 20,000. This figure includes only solidly documented deaths through deliberate acts of murder or 'warfare'. These numbers were often understated, and many incidents were not documented. And then there are the hundreds of thousands killed by disease."

The Red Clydesiders

The Red Clydesiders
[2002]

(Continues)

The Swaggies Have All Waltzed Matilda Away

The Swaggies Have All Waltzed Matilda Away
[1991]
Album "Dance of the Underclass"

[1964]
Album "The Ballad of Women"

The John MacLean March

The John MacLean March
[1948?]
Versi di Hamish Henderson
Su di una melodia tradizionale scozzese
“The John MacLean March had its first performance in the St. Andrews Hall, Glasgow, at the memorial [concert?] to the great Scottish republican socialist on 28 Nov. 1948, where it was sung by William Noble. It is set to a traditional version of a pipe melody that is today played and sung all over Scotland to the more commercially patriotic verses of Scotland the Brave.”

No! Così non ci dobbiamo stare lì! Italiani brutta gente se fanno... (Continues)

Shot At Dawn (The Ballad of Harry Farr)

Huw Pudner
Shot At Dawn (The Ballad of Harry Farr)

La corte marziale lo condannò a morte, soprattutto grazie alla testimonianza di un ufficiale che dichiarò di aver intimato ad Harry Farr: "If you don't go up to the fucking front, I'm going to fucking blow your brains out!", a cui Harry Farr semplicemente rispose: "I just can't go on". Il soldato Harry Farr fu fucilato il 16 ottobre... (Continues)

The Soldiers Marched for Peace

Lyrics and music by Brendan Ashton
'This song came from hearing about post traumatic stress and interviews with soldiers who after coming back from the war did not feel appreciated. People have the tendency of saying it's their fault they knew what they were getting into when they joined the army. But I don't believe many of them thought they were political tools following the whims of George Bush and Tony Blair. I don't know I might be wrong. Who is ultimately responsible for starting wars, I don't think it is soldiers.' (Brendan Ashton)

Dublin City 1913 (Ballad of Larkin and Connolly)

Dublin City 1913 (Ballad of Larkin and Connolly)
[1963]
Lyrics by Donagh and Niall MacDonagh

That Crazy War
[1917]

Prima registrazione nota: Jimmy Yates & His Boll Weevils, 1929.

"This song seems to have been adapted to fit almost every war in existence. It is fitting, though, that it apparently comes from World War I -- the stupidest, most wasteful conflict of them all."
