| THE GLASSPEARL STRINGERS SONG All of us are glasspearl stringers, Here we are, full of life In our veins, just like fire, Venetian blood is flowing. Nothing can hold us When we fly into furies, We're women who string glasspearls, And the stringers are always right. We're working all the day long Like living machines Among tricks and distress, Thousand times humiliated. We're girls but we're wasting The best years of our life To earn so little money Not enough even to buy food Even the hand bailer could say How much tears we shed Every glasspearl we string Is a drop of sweat for us. So we poor girls Can't do anything But always give in And work in silence. If we don't say anything, we're abused And if we complain, sick of all this They call us thieves And put us in jail. Even the mistresses who'd like To pocket everything, them, We'll undo their chignons With the hand bailer, to those ladies. |
