"Smash Clause 28! Fight the Alton Bill!" is a 1988 single from anarcho-punk band Chumbawamba on their Agit Prop Records label. It is a benefit record for the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard and the Women's Reproductive Rights Campaign.
Clause 28, also known as Section 28, was a controversial bill proposed in the United Kingdom to curtail the promotion or acceptance of homosexuality. The Alton Bill was a set of laws designed to make abortion far more restrictive in the United Kingdom. As the song titles suggest, the members of Chumbawamba felt strongly that these movements were not in the best interest of the public.
On the record itself the band shout "Clause 29!", which was accurate at the time of recording. Soon after, the bill was changed to Clause 28.

He's doing his job and duty in the unhealthy atmosphere of Iraq but can still look around him and see parallels between the folks getting on with their daily life despite the same unhealthy atmosphere and his own parents eking out an existence on a croft in Buchan.'

Since Thatcher did pass earlier this week, the band has delivered the EP and is also streaming the release online. Along with that, the band delivered a eulogy:
Let's make it clear: This is a cause to celebrate, to party, to stamp the dirt down. Tomorrow we can carry on shouting and writing and working and singing and striking against the successive governments that have so clearly followed Thatcher's Slash & Burn policies, none more so than the present lot. But for now, we can have a drink and a dance and propose a toast to the demise of someone who blighted so many people's lives for so long. It was recorded under the alias of '100 Suns' and features on the soundtrack of the 2007 documentary 'In Prison My Whole Life' which revolves around the life of Mumia Abu-Jamal.
News first hit of this unusual collaboration between Massive Attack and American hip-hop star, Snoop Dogg, back in May 2007. The genesis of the song was from both artists being musically apart of the documentary film, ‘In Prison My Whole Life’.
In Massive Attack’s case, they had been commissioned (under the guise of 100 Suns, a name they have been using to disassociate certain film/advertising projects and collaborations like this one away from the Massive Attack name/brand) to pen the instrumental score for the film, while Snoop Dogg had already produced a song named after the film. From there, under the suggestion of the filmmakers, Snoop Dogg sent Massive Attack his vocals for Calling Mumia allowing them to get... (Continues)

Bruno era - giustamente - un orso bruno.
Il suo nome “scientifico” era “Orso JJ1” (cioè il primo figlio della coppia formata dalla femmina Jurka e dal maschio Joze).
Bruno era nato nel 2004 all’interno di un progetto italo-austro-sloveno che prevedeva di sperimentare e monitorare la reintroduzione di alcuni esemplari di Ursus arctos nel territorio della provincia di Trento.
Ma nella primavera del 2006 il giovane e focoso Bruno, svegliatosi molto affamato dal letargo invernale, sconfinò in Germania, nella Baviera, dove si diede molto da fare (anche se un po’ confusamente, data la giovane età ed irruenza) uccidendo qualche decina di pecore e capre.
Le autorità tedesche (c’era già quella “culona intrombabile” della Merkel) si dissero molto preoccupate mentre quelle italiane rivendicarono Bruno come proprietà dello Stato... L’orso, suo malgrado, si trovò... (Continues)

Franca Rame è scomparsa oggi, 29 maggio 2013, all'età di 84 anni. E questo maledetto mese di maggio sembra non voler finire mai.
Nel 1973 Franca Rame fu sequestrata e stuprata da un gruppo di fascisti. Fascismo significa esattamente questo, senza ulteriori ed inutili precisazioni: lo stupro dell'intelligenza, del coraggio e della combattività mediante cazzi di bestie. Così i fascisti stuprano una donna allo stesso modo in cui stuprano la Storia.
Franca Rame ebbe il coraggio di scriverlo, di raccontarlo, di recitarlo in pubblico. Perché tutti sapessero che cosa significa.
I suoi stupratori hanno subito un procedimento penale giunto a termine dopo venticinque anni e, quindi, caduto in prescrizione.

Andare all'incontrario, ovvero rifiutare ogni tipo di apparenza assassina proposta, anzi no, imposta, dal capitalismo: questo vuole dirci Duccio Ghelardi in questo suo brano dove l'incontrario (viene a mente la direzione ostinata e contraria del suo amatissimo De André) ricorre addirittura al Che Guevara. Non un Che Guevara da magliette, però, ma una figura che mantiene completamente la sua valenza di ribellione e di ideali portati senza compromessi anche di fronte alla morte. E' ribellione allo stato puro quella che promana da questo e da pezzi come questo, una ribellione che, apparentemente informe, sta formando qualcosa con cui tutti dovremo fare i conti. [RV]

«De entre el amplio repertorio de canciones que ha compuesto e interpretado Joan Isaac, sin duda, una de las que más me impactó desde siempre –y que aún sigo escuchando y disfrutando con frecuencia– es la titulada “A Margalida”; canción dedicada a Margalida Bover Vadell –amante de Salvador Puig Antich–, que Joan grabó, por primera vez, en su disco “Viure”, publicado en 1977.
Recuerdo a la perfección el primer día que escuché “A Margalida”. Resultó una experiencia muy emocionante. Joan, con aquella hermosa canción, consiguió provocarme una contradictoria sensación de indignación y de ternura.

Parole e musica di Mordechai Gebirtig, “momenti di speranza” e di illusione che egli scrisse nel ghetto di Podgórze, Cracovia, due anni prima che i nazisti ne iniziassero la liquidazione. Nella prima fase di questa (fine maggio / inizio giugno del 1942) l’autore e la moglie, ultrasessantenni, furono trucidati per strada. Il boia Amon Göth terminò il “lavoro” nel marzo dell’anno successivo: tutti gli inabili al lavoro – circa 2.000 – furono uccisi sul posto, altri trasferiti nel campo di Plaszów per diventare schiavi, altri ancora destinati ad una morte orribile a Birkenau o a Bełżec.

Dale Farm is a six acre plot of land on Oak Lane, near the A127 Southend Arterial road. Dale Farm has been subject to Green Belt controls since 1982. Next to the Dale Farm site there is an authorised "Irish Travellers"
site known as Oak Lane. This has Council planning permission, and provides 34 legal pitches.
Dale Farm cottage was leased to Ray Bocking, a scrap metal dealer in the early 1960s. Land in the north-east corner was used as a scrap yard without planning permission until 2001.
As a site for Travellers, Dale Farm was started in the 1980s when a planning appeal was won by two families against Basildon District Council on the southern end of the site, with the help of a professor of land management, Robert Home. Prof. Home stated that

Scopro sulla Bibliotece Polskiej Piosenki che דער טאַנגאָ פֿון אָשװיׅענצים è una versione scritta in yiddish da Shmerke Kaczerginski di “Niewolnicze tango”, una canzone polacca composta – secondo quanto riesco a capire dalle note - da due anonimi internati nel campo di concentramento e di lavoro forzato di Płaszów, sobborgo di Cracovia, Polonia.
Tanto per intenderci, nel ghetto di Cracovia e nel campo nazista di Płaszów è ambientato il film di Steven Spielberg “Schindler's List”.
Il “Zwangsarbeitslager Plaszow des SS- und Polizeiführers im Distrikt Krakau” fu inaugurato nel 1942 come campo di lavoro forzato, divenne di concentramento nel 1944. La differenza era meramente burocratica perché a Kraków-Płaszów comunque si moriva. E si moriva non solo “di schiavitù, sotto la frusta del carnefice” ma anche – come ben mostrato nel film di Spielberg – per il puro vezzo sadico di Amon Göth, il capitano delle SS responsabile della liquidazione del ghetto di Podgorze a Cracovia e comandante del campo, il quale amava tenersi in esercizio con il fucile sparando quotidianamente sugli internati come in un poligono, dall’alto di una collina che dominava il campo.

Dedico questa magnifica poesia di Claudio Lolli (che ancora mi descrive abbastanza) ad Adriana.. ricordandole che quello che lei chiama intossico o inquinamento, potrebbe essere invece un salutare bisogno di respirare ossigeno (quello più puro!).
È sempre solo una questione di punti di vista,... di angolature..

The outstanding western swing band Asylum Street Spankers grouped this tripod of propositions and came up with the everlasting video dumbfounding those creature who "support" USA troops by providing support and incentive to them to take a walk amidst mine fields in Iraq.

My friend, Mike 'Whisker Fish' Dollins, sent me an over the top press release for his appearance at our festival May 20, 2007. He said the stars are all in align and we're all gonna kick it out and jam some twelve bar boogie at 3:00 pm May 20 and it may even bring peace on earth.
So that inspired me to write this song, "Blues For Peace".
