Jean-Bertrand Aristide, ex sacerdote cattolico e “teologo della liberazione”, ha nello scorso decennio lasciato la sua impronta sulla politica haitiana. E’ stato il primo presidente democraticamente eletto di un paese che, in due secoli di indipendenza, non aveva conosciuto che dittature. L’ultimo di una lunga serie dittatori è stato il famoso Jean Claude Duvalier, soprannominato “Baby Doc”. Nel 1990, otto mesi dopo il suo ingresso nel palazzo presidenziale, Aristide fu rovesciato da un colpo di stato militare. Visse per un paio d’anni in esilio negli Stati Uniti, finché nel 1994 una forza di invasione americana non lo aiutò a rimettersi in sella. Questo Frammento l'ho raccolto io in provincia di Venezia, credo a Meolo, ma non sono sicuro, nel 1965 dalla voce di due fratelli (ricordo solo il nome di uno: Eugenio) durante una cena all'osteria. L'ho incisa nel LP "Addio padre" (Dischi del Sole) nel 1966.

Per i tribunali di guerra, Prendi il fucile e gettalo per terra è una "nefasta canzone sediziosamente suggestiva per i soldati oltre che scandalosa e pericolosa" * e per questo condannano severamente i soldati colti a cantare queste strofe rievocanti la pace.
O Dio del cielo è un canto corale che ha qualcosa di solenne e quasi religioso, per questo non può essere declinato in senso bellicoso e nelle esecuzioni popolari si rifiuta di "portare quel fucile alla frontiera" o di "innastare la baionetta" (come certe versioni scritte vorrebbero) contro un nemico che non si conosce.

Obtuvo varios premios importantes entre los que se cuentan: Boscán de Poesía en 1950, Premio de la Crítica en 1959 y el Fastenrath de la Real Academia en 1961.
«A modo de antología» y «Todos mis sonetos», son sus obras más representativas.

Missak Manouchian (en arménien: Միսաք Մանուշյան) a 19 ans lorsqu'il arrive en France en 1925. Il est né le 1er septembre 1906 dans une famille de paysans arméniens du petit village d'Adyaman, en Turquie. Il a huit ans lorsque son père est tué par des militaires turcs au cours d'un massacre . Sa mère mourra de maladie, aggravée par la famine qui frappait la population arménienne. Les atrocités du génocide marquent Missak Manouchian pour la vie. De nature renfermée, il deviendra encore plus taciturne ce qui le conduira, vers l'âge de douze ou treize ans, à exprimer ses états d'âme en vers :

Particolarmente duri e diretti sono i versi finali, indirizzati chiaramente a Brassens ed al suo anarchismo individualista intransigente ma, per molti, dal sapore decisamente qualunquista, espresso particolarmente nella famosa canzone "Le pluriel":

à l'homme, et sitôt qu'on
est plus de quatre on est
qu'une bande de cons...

Friends and enemies, for President Bush, (unlike the sincere American), the dollar may be the most important thing.
But for those who believe that honour is greater than the dollar, they are left with no other option, but to fight and die - because they cannot win.
Let us not kill them and let them not kill us.
If it was the others, the day before; Afghanistan, yesterday and Iraq, today - it could be me, tomorrow and you, the day after. When such intimidation to our dignity is in the air, it is expected of all of us to stand up to defend our lives and our pride.
But for those of you, like me, who have been brought up in the way of love and non violence, who prefer neither to fight nor kill, at least join me in my song.

Il 14 giugno 2005 dovevo essere incocciato in chissà quale sito che riportava qualche testo dei Betagarri senza traduzione. Le mie conoscenze della lingua euskara erano e sono rimaste scarse (ma non quelle dell'Anonimo Toscano del XXI Secolo, evidentemente!), tant'è che l'unico commento finora presente in questa pagina abbandonata da tredici anni al "quanto prima" era che la canzone "è in lingua basca". [Sticazzi, direbbe il poeta]. Grazie all'Anonimo, che naturalmente conosce molte più lingue del sottoscritto, questa pagina dedicata a un rifiuto del servizio militare nello stato spagnolo molto alla "betagarriana" può essere finalmente considerata degna di questo nome. Dal primo album dei Betagarri, "L", registrato nel 1994 a Gasteiz (Vitoria in spagnolo) in modo completamente indipendente. Tutte le nove canzoni che contiene sono in basco, ma c'è anche la "Bella Ciao" con ritornello in italiano per la quale si rimanda alla relativa pagina. [RV]

Una rarissima versione dell'Internazionale che circolava nella Livorno distrutta del primo dopoguerra su dei volantini distribuiti dai portuali. Mi fu a suo tempo comunicata da Ivonio Sestini, testimone delle lotte operaie a Piombino e Livorno negli anni dal 1947 al 1960.
A most rare Italian version of the Internationale circulating in Leghorn (Livorno) in the immediate postwar years, on broadsides distributed by harbour workers. I was handed a copy of it by Ivonio Sestini, a witness of the workers' struggles in Piombino and Leghorn in the years between 1947 and 1960.
