Évangéline est une chanson qui fait vibrer une corde sensible chez les Acadiens. C'est une histoire d'exil, d'espoir et d'amour reprise par les plus grandes voix d'Acadie, dont Marie-Jo Thériault, Rose-Marie Landry, Isabelle Roy et Annie Blanchard.
La chanson conte la déportation réellement vécue du peuple acadien, en 1755, de leur Acadie natale, du village de Grand-Pré (Nouvelle-Écosse), et, plus précisément, cela conte l'histoire d'une Acadienne, Évangéline, qui a recherché toute sa vie, par la suite, son grand Amour, son fiancé, Gabriel, et ce n'est qu'à la fin, alors qu'elle soignait des malades dans un centre, elle retrouve Gabriel et le reconnaît, malade, juste avant qu'il ne meure, dans ses bras.
La chanson – un peu mélodramatique – commence avec Évangéline dans les bras de Gabriel et finit avec Gabriel mourant dans les bras d'Évangéline.

Di tanti emigranti che son partiti, eccone uno che ritorna. Questa è la canzone della sua gioia, e c'è tutta la gioia possibile nella voce di Nikos Xylouris, che per primo la interpretò. Il testo è del mio solito Nikos Gatsos, che gli diede un titolo più lungo, tratto dai primi due versi del refrain: «Φύσα αεράκι φύσα με μη χαμηλώνεις ίσαμε».
E che con questi due versi intitolò anche la sua scelta delle migliori canzoni che aveva musicato, pubblicata postuma presso Ikaros nel 1992 a cura della sua compagna, la poetessa Agathì Dimitrouka. Evidentemente Gatsos amava in modo particolare questo suo testo.

Nelle note che hai fornito sui "Vlahi" c'è, diciamo, del vero e del non vero. Sono decisamente abborracciate; dovrò preparare una nota linguistica un po' seria su questo termine, che in realtà ha il suo punto di partenza nel protogermanico *waliskaz, indicante in origine popolazioni non germaniche di lingua celtica. E' stato un termine davvero "globetrotter" ed ha una storia complicatissima che cercherò di tracciare; ma devo mettermici appositamente. Intanto, seppure un po'...affrettatamente, rimando a questo vecchio thread del newsgroup it.cultura.linguistica del settembre 2000, dove ne parlavo. Comunque, alcune delle etimologie fornite da vlahoi.net sono veramente del tipo "lucus a non lucendo" e andrebbero archiviate nella spazzatura; altre (in pratica, solo le prime due) si avvicinano un po' alla verità, anche se mi sembra abbastanza strano che un sito che si occupa dei Vlahi (almeno... “They say in Harlan County there are no neutrals there…”. A Haran County ti dicono: guarda che non si può essere neutrali. O fai il crumiro o stai col sindacato.. Insomma: la scoperta di una cosa che in qualche modo la nostra pubblicistica negava. Per usare una parola desueta, la lotta di classe. Negli Stati Uniti, paese dove si affermava che le classi non esistessero. Questo mi affascinò molto. E mi affascinò la relazione che esisteva tra una storia di conflitto sociale e una straordinaria ricchezza di patrimonio musicale, narrativo, di cultura orale. Quindi il fascino veniva proprio da questa idea di un luogo dove non solo c’erano state le lotte, ma queste lotte erano state raccontate con gli strumenti della cultura popolare e della cultura orale.

Vediamo se riesco a rispondere a tutto! Inanzitutto voglio rassicurare che no, non sono una di quei "pacifisti" a favore delle bombe NATO o dell'invasione dell'Iraq (anzi, la mia prima manifestazione è stata proprio contro quella guerra) è solo che credo che la violenza non sia MAI la soluzione. Possiamo non essere d'accordo, però per me "la pace ok, ma se non ci riusciamo facciamo la guerra" fa tanto "bombardiamo l'Iraq per portargli la democrazia" e sappiamo tutti come sta andando... L'esempio di Che Guevara e Gandhi mi è è piaciuto moltissimo perché è proprio così che la vedo; per me il fine non giustifica i mezzi, il Che per quanto nobile possa essere stato d'animo per me è un militare e quindi non potrà mai il mio "idolo" Lo rispetto e rispetto soprattutto i valori che difendeva, ma io sono il "tipo Gandhi". Jusqu'à présent, mon ami Lucien l'âne aux sabots inusables, je t'avais fait connaître des chansons que j'avais écrites à partir de textes de Carlo Levi et je les avais appelées des canzones lévianes. Eh bien, voici une chanson tabucchiane, qui, comme son nom l'indique, vient tout droit d'une œuvre de l'écrivain Antonio Tabucchi, grand connaisseur du Portugal et traducteur de Pessoa, entre autres choses. Elle raconte à sa manière, il faudrait dire à ma manière, l'histoire rapportée par Tabucchi lui-même dans un roman intitulé « Sostiene Pereira », dont tu retrouveras la trace dans l'antienne (Prétend Pereira) qui ponctue et termine ainsi chacun des quartets. Comme l'indique le titre, ceci est la version française...
