The song is from the point of view of government officials, who want to use the neutron bomb to rid the country of its poorest inhabitants. One could infer that the government officials in the song are conservatives, as the song's storyline mentions at one point that Jane Fonda "convinced the liberals it’s okay", hinting that the officials are not liberals. When "Kill the Poor" got a surprising amount of play in some third world countries, the band wondered if the government took the song literally and were actively promoting it.

Musically, the song mixed the early hardcore punk aesthetic (hard, distorted chords and a basic musical assault) with post-Ramones rockabilly riffs and an outrageous and ingenius chorus (based around the Ramones "You're Gonna Kill that Girl," and probably meant as a parody of that song). The title is an allusion to the first (and no longer sung) stanza of the national anthem of Germany, which begins with the words "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles." (literally, "Germany, Germany above all.")

The song focuses on Jerry Brown, the Governor of California 1975-1983 and 2011–2019, and is sung from his perspective. An imaginary Brown outlines a hippie-fascist vision for America, in which his "suede denim secret police" kill un-cool people with "organic poison gas" chambers. Lines such as "Serpent's egg already hatched" (a reference to a line from William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar) comment on the corrosive nature of power. The line "now it is 1984" refers to the totalitarian regime of George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, describing a future (from 1979) where Jerry Brown has become President Brown presiding over secret police and gas chambers.

"In the late 1970s, some members of the punk subculture on the West Coast of the United States began to use Nazi symbolism to shock outsiders, and others even adopted neo-Nazism in earnest. Some such listeners of the Dead Kennedys' earlier songs "Kill the Poor" and "California Über Alles" missed the satirical intent behind those pieces and took Biafra's lyrics at face value.

Despite their dim view of fascism, the Dead Kennedys had found favor among the nascent Nazi punk movement as radical right wing polemicists. As a result, their shows began to attract an unwanted audience of neo-Nazis.[1] The Dead Kennedys addressed this segment of their audience with "Nazi Punks Fuck Off!"

L’originale è ovviamente la “I Fought The Law” scritta da Sonny Curtis (membro della band di ‎Buddy Holly) nel 1960 e resa immortale nell’esecuzione prima di Bobby Fuller e poi dei ‎‎Clash.‎
La canzone racconta di un giovane spiantato che finisce ai lavori forzati dopo aver commesso una ‎rapina e, spaccando pietre sotto il sole, rimpiange la fidanzata e la libertà perduta a causa della sua ‎scempiaggine… Certo non bastava a farne una CCG DOCG…‎

Ma la versione “parodistica” di Jello Biafra e dei suoi Dead Kennedys racconta invece un’altra ‎storia e precisamente quella magistralmente interpretata sul grande schermo da Sean Penn nel bel ‎film diretto da Gus Van Sant nel 2008 ed intitolato... (Continues)

Da questa canzone vanno tolti soltanto i "sovietici" in quanto non ci sono più. Per il resto, tutto funziona ancora esattamente così. Tutto incredibilmente così. Tutto disperatamente così. La dedichiamo quindi, in modo assai sentito, a tutte le teste di cazzo che, in ogni paese (ma specialmente nel nostro) si sono sdate a bere le panzane sulle "armi di distruzione di massa" propinate dalla peggiore merda politicante. Mi scusassero per il linguaggio; anzi, no, facessero pure a meno di scusarmi perché tanto non me ne frega un cazzo.

NB. Qualche spiegazione sul titolo della canzone e su come lo abbiamo tradotto. Il "kinky sex" propriamente sarebbe il "sesso perverso", o "porcello"; ascoltate l'mp3, e vi accorgerete che in sottofondo vi sono dei chiarissimi "mugolii"...chissà, saranno mica quelli di Clinton che si fa fare i pompini dalla Lewinsky?... Ad ogni modo, nel titolo italiano ci siamo risolti per delle "porcate" che coprono sia i pompini presidenziali, sia le guerre. That's marvelous...![RV]
