| Попал в чужую колею | Got tightly stuck in this deep rut |

| Я цели намечал свои | Of my own choice the targets are, |
| на выбор сам, | Which I have set, |
| А вот теперь из колеи | And here I am, and off the rut |
| не выбраться. | I cannot get. |
| Крутые скользкие края | The sheer walls that rim the rut |
| Имеет эта колея. | Are slippery and greasy mud. |
| Я кляну проложивших ее. | Cursed be those who’ve worn down this rut! |
| Скоро лопнет терпенье мое. | This is going to fill up the cup. |
| И склоняю, как школьник плохой: | I’m declining, like learning by heart: |
| Колею, в колее, с колеей... | To a rut, in a rut, with a rut. |

| Нахальный я. | Impertinent. |

| В уютной этой колее. | In this convenient, cozy rut. |
| Я живо себя убедил, | Apprehensively, I figure out: |
| Не один я в нее угодил: | I am not all alone in this rut. |
| Так держать - колесо в колесе! | Carry on, chum, a wheel in a wheel! |
| И доеду туда, куда все. | And you’ll get right where all ever will. |

| Вот кто-то крикнул сам не свой: | Now, someone yields a frenzied shout: |
| А ну, пусти! | Come, let me go! |
| И начал спорить с колеей | And starts to struggle with the rut – |
| по глупости. | An idiot, |
| Он в споре сжег запас до дна | He has depleted, in this row, |
| тепла души, | The stock of love, |
| И полетели клапана | And bearing brasses busted up |
| и вкладыши. | As well as valves. |
| Но покорежил он края, | And yet he warps the rims of rut, |
| И стала шире колея. | The walls are, now, some more apart. |
| Вдруг его обрывается след. | But his driveway abruptly cuts short. |
| Чудака оттащили в кювет, | And the chap's being dragged to a moat. |
| Чтоб не мог он нам, задним, мешать | So he couldn’t impede us, behind, |
| По чужой колее проезжать. | Driving headway along someone's rut. |

| Вот и ко мне пришла беда - | And now I am as well in trouble – |
| стартер заел. | Ignition stuck. |
| Теперь уж это не езда, | This certain is no more a drive, |
| а ерзанье. | Just fidgeting. |
| И надо б выйти, подтолкнуть, | I should get out to push it on, |
| но прыти нет. | But I lack snap. |
| Авось подъедет кто-нибудь | Should someone bustle to move up close |
| и вытянет. | To pull me out. |
| Напрасно жду подмоги я - | I seek a helping hand in vain – |
| Чужая эта сука колея. | This bitch of a rut is alien. |
| Расплеваться бы глиной и ржой | How I wish I could spit clay and rust |
| С колеей этой самой чужой - | Quits with this very alien rut! |
| Ведь тем, что я ее сам углубил, | ‘Cause by having thus deepened the trail |
| Я у задних надежду убил. | I’ve bereft those behind of a break. |

| Прошиб меня холодный пот | I'm getting cold from chilly sweat |

| Гляжу - размыли край ручьи | And here it is, a rim’s washed out |

| Там выезд есть из колеи - | Here is an exit off the rut, |
| спасение! | Deliverance! |
| Я грязью из-под шин плюю | I spit with mud from under tires |
| В чужую эту колею. | Upon this someone else’s rut: |
| Эй вы, задние, делай как я! | Hey you, going behind, act like me! |
| Это значит, не надо за мной. | That’s, don’t follow the driveway I’m on. |
| Колея эта - только моя, | This new rut belongs only to me. |
| Выбирайтесь своей колеей! | You get out by the ruts of your own! |
