A ZONZO | I'M GOING TO HOOF IT |
| |
Zonzo, paese di pace, paese di sole, | Hoofing it [1], land of fairies, land of sunshine, |
dove trascorrere tutta la vita vorrei. | where I’ll gladly spend the rest of my days. [2] |
Dolci sentieri di sogno fra tenere aiuole, | Path of sweet dreams through well tended flower beds |
angolo di Paradiso, chissà dove sei. | corner of paradise, who knows where you are? |
| |
Vado a Zonzo dove il cielo è sempre blu, | I’m going to hoof it, where the sky is always blue |
dove i passeri che svolazzano sopra gli alberi | where the sparrows that flit about in the trees |
mi cinguettan di lassù. | chirp at me from above. |
Quanta poesia! Oh! | So much poetry! Oh! |
| |
Vado a Zonzo col mio cuore sognator | I’m going to hoof it, with my daydreaming heart, |
e gironzolo per i viottoli | and stroll about through paths |
dove olezzano sulle fronde mille fior | where a thousand scented flowers on their fronds |
che parlano d'amor. | speak of love. |
| |
Questo è il paese dell'eterna primavera, | This is a land of perpetual Spring, |
il Paradiso dove è nato il nostro amor. | the paradise where our love was born. |
Per le sue strade il cuore insegue una chimera, | Through its streets the heart pursues a chimera: |
mi sento l'anima leggera, bianca e pura come un fior. | my soul feels light, white, and pure like a flower. |
| |
Vado a Zonzo, | I’m going to hoof it, |
me ne vo di qua e di là, | I’ll go to and fro, |
vado libero come un passero | I’m hoofing it, free as a bird |
e sento l'anima ebbra di felicità. | and my soul feels drunk with joy. |
| |
Sopra le carte geografiche e sul mappamondo | In paper maps and on the globe, |
e sugli atlanti, per giorni e per notti cercai, | in atlases; for days and nights I looked; |
vane ricerche, il più dolce paese del mondo, | vain searches for the sweetest land in the world; |
Zonzo, paese felice, chissà dov'è mai. | hoofing it, land of happiness, who knows where you are? |
| |
Vado a Zonzo dove il cielo è sempre blu, | I’m going to hoof it, where the sky is always blue |
dove i passeri che svolazzano sopra gli alberi | where the sparrows that flit about in the trees |
mi cinguettan di lassù. | chirp at me from above. |
