[1] Almeno da come lo ho inteso, e anche dal testo, dovrebbe trattarsi di una locanda con annesso bar e locale da ballo nelle vicinanze di una qualche industria situata in un sobborgo o comunque fuori città. Gli attuali “brukshotell” sono qualcosa di più simile ad un agriturismo; da come conoscevo la parola collegandola ad eleganti e pittoreschi alberghi di campagna, la avevo sempre collegata a "bruk" nel senso di "coltivazione, campagna" (lantbruk). L'incertezza può derivare dal termine svedese “bruk”, che è molto ambiguo: fondamentalmente significa “uso, utilizzo” (ted. Brauch) ma, a seconda dei casi, può significare “usanza”, “moda”, “tradizione”; “coltura, coltivazione”; “industria”, “fabbrica”, “forgia”, “mulino”; e persino “malta” (il materiale da costruzione). Si noti che Ceil Herman, nella sua versione inglese, ha lasciato il termine in svedese. Juha Rämö, nella sua traduzione finlandese, ha invece utilizzato Ruukin hotelli, laddove quel ruukki è l'evidente resa finlandese dello svedese bruk (per le leggi fonetiche finlandesi, nessuna parola può cominciare con un gruppo di due consonanti; è per questo, ad es., che *Franska "Francia" diviene Ranska. |
