Versione italiana dell'Anonimo Toscano del XXI Secolo
THE DRUM (ODE XIII)IL TAMBURO (ODE XIII)

I hate that drum’s discordant sound,Detesto 'l suono scordato del tamburo
Parading round, and round, and round:che sfila tutt'attorno e attorno ancora:
To thoughtless youth it pleasure yields,piacere dà a' giovanotti scervellati,
And lures from cities and from fields,li adesca dalle campagne alle città
To sell their liberty for charmsa vender per le malìe d'uno sgargiante
Of tawdry lace, and glittering arms;gallone, o d'arma fulgida, la loro libertà;
And when Ambition’s voice commands,e, quando comanda voce d'Ambizione,
To march, and fight, and fall, in foreign lands.a marciar, battersi e cadere in terre altrui.

I hate that drum’s discordant sound,Detesto 'l suono scordato del tamburo,
Parading round, and round, and round:che sfila tutt'attorno e attorno ancora:
To me it talks of ravag’d plains,mi parla di pianure devastate,
And burning towns, and ruin’d swains,d'arse città, di giovan villici ruinati,
And mangled limbs, and dying groans,di membra mutilate, di rantoli di morte,
And widow’s tears, and orphans moans;di làgrime di vedove, e d'orfani dei lai;
And all that misery’s hand bestows,per tutto quest'agire miserando
To fill the catalogue of human woes.s'empie la lista delle sventure umane.
