SONET 66 (TIRED WITH ALL THESE, FOR RESTFUL DEATH I CRY) | SONETTO 66 |
| |
Tired with all these, for restful death I cry, | Stanco di tutto questo, quiete mortale invoco, |
As, to behold desert a beggar born, | Vedendo il Merito a mendicare nato, |
And needy nothing trimm'd in jollity, | E vuota Nullità gaiamente agghindata, |
And purest faith unhappily forsworn, | E pura Fede miseramente tradita, |
And guilded honour shamefully misplaced, | Ed i più grandi Onori spartiti oscenamente, |
And maiden virtue rudely strumpeted, | E la casta Virtù fatta prostituta, |
And right perfection wrongfully disgraced, | E retta Perfezione cadere in disgrazia, |
And strength by limping sway disabled, | E la Forza avvilita da un potere impotente, |
And art made tongue-tied by authority, | E il Genio creativo per legge imbavagliato, |
And folly doctor-like controlling skill, | E Follia dottorale opprimere Saggezza, |
And simple truth miscall'd simplicity, | E creduta Stupidità la Sincera Franchezza, |
And captive good attending captain ill: | E il Bene, del Male condottiero, reso schiavo, |
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone, | Stanco di tutto questo, da ciò vorrei poter fuggire, |
Save that, to die, I leave my love alone. | Non fosse che, morendo, lascerei solo il mio amore. |
