Versione italiana di Giuseppe Ungaretti
THE DIVINE IMAGELA DIVINA IMMAGINE

To Mercy, Pity, Peace and LoveGrazia, Amore, Pace, e Pietà
All pray in their distress;Chi è negli affanni prega,
And to these virtues of delightE ad esse virtù che liberano
Return their thankfulness.Torna l’animo grato.

For Mercy, Pity, Peace and LoveGrazia, Amore, Pace, e Pietà
Is God, our Father dear,E’ Iddio, Padre caro,
And Mercy, Pity, Peace and LoveGrazia, Amore, Pace e Pietà
Is man, His child and care.E’ l’uomo, Suo figliolo e Suo pensiero.

For Mercy has a human heart,La Grazia ha cuore umano;
Pity a human face,Volto umano, Pietà;
And Love, the human form divine,Umana forma divina, l’Amore,
And Peace, the human dress.E veste umana, Pace.

Then every man, of every clime,Ogni uomo, d’ogni clima,
That prays in his distress,Se prega negli affanni,
Prays to the human form divine,L’umana supplica forma divina,
Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace.Amore e Grazia e la Pietà e la Pace.

And all must love the human form,Da tutti amata sia l’umana forma,
In heathen, Turk, or Jew;In Turchi si mostri o in Ebrei;
When Mercy, Love and Pity dwellDove trovi Pietà, l’Amore e Grazia,
There God is dwelling too.Iddio sta di casa.
