EPITAPH ON A TYRANT | EPITAFFIO DI UN TIRANNO |
| |
Perfection, of a kind, was what he was after, | La perfezione, in qualche modo, era ciĆ² che ricercava, |
And the poetry he invented was easy to understand; | E la poetica da lui inventata era semplice da capire, |
He knew human folly like the back of his hand, | Conosceva l'umana follia come il dorso della sua mano, |
And was greatly interested in armies and fleets; | Ed era grandemente interessato in eserciti e flotte; |
When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter, | Quando rideva, rispettabili senatori scoppiavano a ridere, |
And when he cried the little children died in the streets. | E quando piangeva, i bambini piccoli morivano in mezzo alle strade. |
