| Πού πας, παλικάρι, ωραίο σαν μύθος | Where are you going, palikari, beautiful like a legend, |
| κι ολόισια στο θάνατο κολυμπάς; | as, straight ahead, you drift into death? |

| Και όλες οι αντέννες μιας γης χτυπημένης, | and all the antennas of a stricken land, |
| μεγάφωνα και ασύρματοι από παντού | megaphones loudspeakers and radios everywhere, |
| γλυκά σε νανουρίζουν, κι εσύ ανεβαίνεις | sweetly they sing you to sleep and you, you are ascending |
| ψηλά στους βασιλιάδες τ' ουρανού. | up on high among the great ones in the heavens. |

| κι οι σκλάβες σου ουρλιάζουν στο βωμό. | and your slaves are howling at the altar. |

| κι ο ύμνος σου τραντάζει το ναό. | and your hymn shakes the church. |
