作曲者ジョルジュ・ムスタキは、ギリシャ系ユダヤ人です。1973年 東京音楽祭にゲストとして初来日以来、何度も日本で公演を行い、日本でも幅広いファンを抱えてます。ファンクラブも出来てます。
人々の良心を信じ、より良い世界を建設して行こうとする人々の努力と心を通わせるムスタキの代表作の一つです。この曲を通して彼は世界の"ヒロシマ"として戦争の悲惨さを訴えてます。
