case distrutte e lacrime mentre l'Italia muore.
Siamo i ragazzi della fanteria,
noi siamo i bersaglieri,
forti come locomotive,
ricche dei passeggeri,
è tutta un'altra storia,
se credi nell'Italia,
l'Italia disperata sotto i bombardieri,
l'Italia è calpestata da troppi stranieri.
Quando il sole tramonta
e la luce fa via,
se gli spiora il ricordo di me.
Quante belle ragazze ci sono a Montelungo,
e giovani sorrisi che cambieranno il mondo,
a volte basta un angelo,
a volte serve di Dio,
per vincere i tuoi dubbi,
quelli che ho avuto anch'io,
lottando per difendere la dignità di Dio.
Ho fatto il mio dovere,
ricordati di me,
quell'8 di dicembre del '43,
portata via dal vento,
anni pieni di attività,
cantano i miei traghi,
il canto della morte,
cadono come i fiori.
Quando il sole tramonta
e la luce fa via,
se gli spiora il ricordo di me.
Montelungo,
qui dove nasce il vento,
guerra mai più sarà,
sopra Montelungo.

How many pretty girls you find in Montelungo?
How many gentle people way down to Cassino?
Welcome to the country where eagles still fly,
like brave-hearted soldiers, like angels in the sky.
Welcome to the country where glory never dies
Over the land, through the mountains, across the southern seas
Canadians and Americans came to Italy
To fight against the Nazis and keep the winter line
Never ending story to live or to die
To dress the eagle's wings, harming the butterflies
Welcome to you United Nations soldiers
We are fighting Bersaglieri
Stronger than the Canadians, not passengers who told me
If you believe in heroes, who get the butterflies
It's just another story, believe we'll never die
Like hearted glory rare, like angels in the sky
When the moonlight is over and the stars fade away
Any time till the end of the day
If you see me and believe in a phantom idea
Don't let bad things become butterflies
Don't let eagles become butterflies
It's time to tell my friends, I wish that I can stay
I reached the land of peace, some million miles away
Take care of our country, where eagles still fly
Like brave hearted soldiers, like angels in the sky
Be proud of your country, and glory never dies
Don't laugh or make a sad face, I'm done, don't take a seat
I'll never end my stories, I can't even breathe
The answer, my friends, still glows in the wind
I've simply done my duty, I am simply dead
Like poppies blooming red
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I've simply done my duty, I am simply dead
Like poppies blooming red

Montelungo
