'When the Levee Breaks' è un country blues scritto e registrato da Kansas Joe McCoy (secondo marito di Minnie) e Memphis Minnie a New York il 18 giugno 1929, in occasione della loro prima sessione per Columbia Records. La canzone vede McCoy alla voce e alla chitarra ritmica, mentre Memphis Minnie, la chitarrista più esperta dei due, suona la chitarra solista, fornendo gli abbellimenti in stile fingerpicking. Sull'altra facciata del 78 giri c'era 'That Will Be Alright', un'altra performance vocale di McCoy.
