NB: Volevo aggiungere questo brano ed altri a una sezione dedicata alla lotta dei Nativi americani (Indiani) che continua oggi, però ne vedo solo una dedicata a loro genocidio. Mi pare una riduzione del campo espressivo di una tematica storicamente non chiusa da un genocidio (che senza dubbio c'era) ma che continua con una resistenza (veda ad esempio la storia del AIM American Indian Movement) e si sviluppa in un'affermazione culturale del esistenza delle First Nations. Sarebbe tempo, mi pare, di aprire acanto della sezione "Genocide" una sezione "Empowerment" o "Resistance".

Carissimo Pierre-André, la tua ci è sembrata una richiesta opportuna e ragionevole; aprire però una nuova sezione, o percorso, si rivelerebbe troppo complesso. Un po’ “salomonicamente”, e per venire incontro alla tua richiesta abbiamo quindi deciso di modificare (o ampliare) la denominazione del percorso: da “Genocidio dei Nativi Americani” a “Genocidio e Resistenza dei Nativi Americani”, come potrai vedere dall’intestazione di questa pagina (inglese: Native American Genocide and Empowerment; francese: Génocide et Résistance des Amérindiens). In questo modo, crediamo, vi potranno rientrare anche canzoni e brani musicali che rispondono ai criteri da te preconizzati. Naturalmente, è allo studio anche la traduzione di questo e di altri brani. Purtroppo, e te ne sarai accorto dalla lentezza nella risposta, specialmente in questo periodo estivo siamo in pochissimi ad occuparci del sito, e i “tempi di risposta” sono olimpicamente lumacheschi. The Ghost Dance (Caddo: Nanissáanah, also called the Ghost Dance of 1890) is a ceremony incorporated into numerous Native American belief systems. According to the millenarian teachings of the Northern Paiute spiritual leader Wovoka (renamed Jack Wilson), proper practice of the dance would reunite the living with spirits of the dead, bring the spirits to fight on their behalf, end American Westward expansion, and bring peace, prosperity, and unity to Native American peoples throughout the region.
The Ghost Dance was a ceremony for the regeneration of the earth, and, subsequently, the restoration of the earth's caretakers to their former life of bliss. Not surprisingly, the religion experienced its height of popularity during the late 19th century, when devastation to the buffalo, the land, and its Native American guardians was at its peak. Between 1888 and 1890, various tribes sent emissaries to Wovoka, who claimed to be a visionary, and who was hailed as a Messiah by many desperate Indian nations. Wovoka maintained that Spirits had shown him certain movements and songs after he had died for a short period of time. In a manner reminiscent of Christ, Wovoka preached non-violence, and most tribes abandoned their war-like ways in preparation for future happiness...
Wovoka is the fifth album by the Mexican-Native American rock band Redbone. As with the band's other releases, Wovoka features songs with Native American themes; each of the band members at the time had either Native American or Mexican heritage.
NB: The word "redbone" is a Louisiana term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry. The Vasquez-Vegas brothers were of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage.
