[Intro: Headie One]
Don't judge me
Don't judge me
I know that shit fuckry
I was broke and I loved myself
Nobody ain't love me

[Verse 1: FKA twigs]
Don't judge me, take care of me
Don't judge me, take care of my heart
Don't judge me, be there for me
Don't judge me, just hold me in your arms
Don't judge me, take care of me
Hold me in your arms
Don't judge me, be there for me
Hold me in your arms, yeah

[Refrain: FKA twigs & Headie One]
(Don't judge me)
Hold me in your arms, say we'll make it through (Don't judge me)
I've got a precious heart open for you (I know that shit fuckry)
Say why you're breakin' for me every day (Didn't love me)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way
Don't judge me
Don't judge me (I know that shit fuckry)
Don't judge me (No one judge me)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way

[Verse 2: Headie One]
You know what? Bein' black, bein' from the hood and seventeen is powerless
The only change is when you get yourself a heater
I don't know why me and dem oppers started beefin'
Do I blame me, or the Willie Lynch theory? [1]
Born in the gutter, no, it weren't my choice to be here
Funny how both my parents done the most to be here
We can walk free, but are we really walkin' free here?
How can this be home when I feel I wanna flee here?
I can't trust the police force and I can't trust the media
Learned more about my people from the streets than from my teachers
There's been a million speeches
No justice, no peace, 'cause we in pieces (One)
Officer, am I allowed to breathe here? [2]
I didn't choose to be me, so why discriminate me? (Told me turn, ayy)
Paranoia got the gang'nem rolling with it lately (Turn, turn, turn)
Feelin' like they're gonna run up in my crib and take me (Told me turn, ayy)
So rest in peace Mark, you're forever in our prayers (Told me turn; don't judge me) [3]
No more betrayal, we need permanent changes (One)
So we can move forward without turnin' back pages (Argh)
No more feelin' like strangers in this world that we live in (Turn, argh)
Uh, Lord, forgive them (Turn, turn, turn, turn, turn; don't judge me)
No more betrayal, we need permanent changes (One)
So we can move forward without turnin' back pages (Argh)
Let them all know that it's wrong being racist
Help us feel proud when we look at our faces

[Refrain: FKA twigs & Headie One]
(Don't judge me)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way, don't judge me (Don't judge me)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way, don't judge me (I know that shit fuckry)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way, oh (Don't judge me)
I'll send the precious kinda love your way

[Outro: Headie One & FKA twigs]
I used to pray for a change, until I had dirty knees
Don't judge me
Don't judge me
Notes from Genius

[1] The Willie Lynch speech is an address to slave owners in Colonial America where the writer, Willie Lynch, claims the secret to controlling slaves is to pit them against one another. Headie wonders whether all the gang feuds he’s involved in are because of society’s wish to keep black people fighting each other so they can’t fight racism.

[2] phrase that reflects the death of George Floyd, who was killed last year by a policeman by pressing his knee against his neck until he could not breathe, losing his life. BLACK LIVES MATTER!

[3] This is a reference to Mark Duggan, a man from Tottenham in North London who was shot by police in 2011. His death sparked widespread outrage and resulted in some of the largest riots in London since the 1980s. Headie had a personal connection with Duggan – he was from Headie’s Broadwater Farm estate – and his son, Bandokay, is a rapper in Headie’s crew, OFB.
