È un canto degli ebrei sefarditi in esilio. Risale al Medioevo, prima dell’espulsione del 31 luglio 1492 dalla Spagna, il 7 di Av del 5252 del calendario ebraico. Il tema dominante è il ritorno a Gerusalemme; non sottintende urgenze ideologiche, né aspirazioni di massa, l’Aliyah era di là da venire. Il canto si conservò grazie agli esiliati nell’Impero ottomano, a Istanbul e in Bulgaria.
Yitzhak Isaac Levy, padre di Yasmin Levy, la cantante affascinante interprete della canzone, fu un compositore e ricercatore della musica e cultura sefardita, direttore editoriale della rivista Aki Yerushalayim, un’importante riferimento in lingua ladina.
Se ne propongono due versioni. Le interpretazioni segnalate sono alquanto diverse e interessanti in entrambe le versioni. A chi è sensibile al genere si raccomanda l’ascolto di tutte. Singolare nella seconda e terza interpretazione della prima versione l’esibizione della danzatrice Miriam Peretz, artista di grande statura. Conferisce plasticità al brano , lo rende, per così dire, tridimensionale. Tali esecuzioni sottolineano una dominante della cultura ebraica, l’attenzione per la corporeità che la civiltà occidentale ha offuscato per secoli, esasperando il dualismo corpo-anima di marca platonica.
Comune a tutte le interpretazioni, superfluo rammentarlo, il dolore dell’esilio, in qualcuna esteso, si direbbe, anche all’esilio da sé stessi.
