millumfra
Eg eri móð, troytt og svong,
havi arbeitt allan dagin
á flakavirki sum so mong
og pening fingið ístaðin.

Tjeni pening í hópatali,
tí eg arbeiði hart hvønn dag,
men alt hetta, sum eg hvønn mánað betali,
ger, at mappan er tóm við sama lag.

Eg veit væl, at summi liva lætt,
hava góða løn og lítlan skatt,
tey siga, tað ikki sømir seg,
at tú gongur runt og gremur teg

Vit hava til mjólk og breyð,
men børnini krevja meira,
og hugtungt tað er at slíta seg upp,
og sjálv aldri eiga eitt oyra.

Eg kenni meg gamla og brúkta
eftir ein langan dag,
men eg royni at hanga í
og fari hvønn morgun avstað.

Eg veit væl, at summi liva lætt,
hava góða løn og lítlan skatt,
tey siga, tað ikki sømir seg,
at tú gongur runt og gremur teg

Spell at alt í hesi verð
skal snúgva seg um pengar,
men vísur so sum henda her,
tær munnu vera so mangar.

L'OPERAIA

Sono stanca, spossata e ho fame,
ho lavorato tutta la giornata
in un conservificio [1], come tante,
e in cambio ho ricevuto denaro.

Mi servono un sacco di soldi
e perciò lavoro duro ogni giorno,
ma tutto quel che pago ogni mese
mi svuota all'istante il portafoglio.

So bene che qualcuno ha vita facile,
ha un buon salario e poche tasse,
dicono che non stia bene
che tu vada in giro a lamentarti

Abbiamo sí latte e pane,
ma ai bambini ne serve di più,
e è duro sgobbare e faticare
e mai essere ascoltate.

Mi sento vecchia e sfruttata
dopo una lunga giornata,
ma cerco di resistere
e ogni mattina riparto.

THE WORKING WOMAN

I'm tired, exhausted and hungry,
I've been working all the day long
In a fish cannery, like so many women,
And I got money for this.

I need a lot of money, that's why
I work so hard every day.
But with all that I got to pay every month,
My wallet empties in an instant.

I know someone's life is easy
With good wages and little taxes,
And they say it's not so good
That you go round complaining

Well yes, we got milk and bread
But our children need more,
And it's so hard slogging as slaves
And nobody listens to you.

I feel old and worn out
After so long a working day,
But I try and don't give up,
And I start again every morning.

I know someone's life is easy
With good wages and little taxes,
And they say it's not so good
That you go round complaining

Everything in this world, damn it!
Is connected with money,
But it's sure that so many women
Are similar to this one.
