(1) Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd (1901-1966), sudafricano nato ad Amsterdam, boero, psicologo, nazionalista e ideatore del sistema dell’apartheid. Fu assassinato nel 1966 non da un nero ma da un immigrato greco, Dimitri Tsafendas. Si legga al link indicato la storia molto emblematica dell’attentatore, dichiarato completamente pazzo ma lasciato marcire in galera per 30 anni. Tsafendas è morto in prigionia nel 1999, quasi 10 anni dopo la liberazione di Mandela.

(2) baaskap: ideologia politica che prevede la dominazione completa e assoluta del padrone bianco; sjambok; uno dei nomi con cui in Sudafrica viene indicata la frusta in cuoio, simbolo dell’oppressione sui neri; kiri: non ne sono sicuro, ma credo che kiri sia il nome dato in Sudafrica ad una specie di bastone o mazza ferrata, un altro simbolo di oppressione.
