Una canzone ed un autore fondamentali che ancora mancavano sulle CCG/AWS.‎
Bert Jansch, folksinger scozzese tra i fondatori dei Pentangle, ha influenzato molti ‎musicisti divenuti in seguito ben più famosi di lui, come Donovan, Jimmy Page, Simon & ‎Garfunkel, Neil Young e Nick Drake.‎
E’ morto solo pochi mesi fa, il 5 ottobre 2011, ucciso da un maledetto cancro.‎

La prima versione postata è tratta da un sito non ufficiale dedicto a Donovan e mi ‎sono accorto solo adesso che la seconda strofa non è quella originale di Jansch ma probabilmente è ‎farina del sacco di Donovan stesso, anche se su quel sito non si fa nessun cenno all’alterazione.‎

La versione originale faceva più esplicito riferimento alla minaccia dell’olocausto nucleare, ‎sventato in extremis solo pochi anni prima in occasione dell’invasione della Baia dei Porci a Cuba e ‎della successiva “crisi dei missili” tra Washington e Mosca:‎

Inoltre, nella terza strofa Jansch non scriveva “your cause in through” ma un ben più ‎esplicito “true”: “Figlio, il mondo è diviso ma tu sei consapevole di essere dalla ‎parte del giusto, della verità”

Infine, la cover di Donovan risale già al 1965, anche se fu poi pubblicata solo nel 1971 nella ‎compilation “Hear Me Now”.‎
