La canzone nella melodia riprende una ballata del 1929, mentre nel testo si racconta di un giovane che decide di fare la recluta e di partecipare alla guerra. Parte per mare e saluta tutti:
"Addio, è stato bello conoscerti/ C’è una grande guerra che dobbiamo proprio vincere/Dopodiché ci ritroveremo di nuovo insieme".

Ancora una canzone con cui Guthrie esprimeva il proprio favore per la guerra contro i nazisti.
E’ giusto che canzoni come questa compaiano sulle CCG/AWS? Secondo me, sì. Si tratta di canzoni dell’epoca che celebrano la lotta contro il fascismo che aveva messo a ferro e fuoco l’Europa intera e mi pare che abbiano diritto di stare su queste pagine al pari delle canzoni sulla Resistenza o sulla Guerra di Spagna.
