Anna politkovskaia paris

This song for Russian human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya is entitled "7th of October", performed by a Finnish indie pop band Puk. If you don't speak Finnish, you obviously cannot understand many words (nb: an English translation has been prepared just for this reason), but perhaps you can catch the mood. The song was written immediately after the murder in October 2006; it was published later as a single in 2008, and as a part of the album Koordinaatit in 2009.

Olin tullut ulkoa
ja juuri avannut matkaradion.

Oli heti selvää että en
kuullut väärin sillä
sitä tavallaan tiesi odottaa.

Sitten taisin vain istua paikallani
ja olla hiljaa.

Ajattelin kyllä Moskovaa
mutta kai enemmän sitä maata
josta hän tahtoi kirjoittaa.

Ja jostain syystä muistin että maa
on niitä joiden kautta linnut
lentää matkallaan, muuttaessaan.

Ja muistin myös sotilaat, sotilaspojat
ja äidit.

7. lokakuuta ja
miten lähellä
onkaan Tšetšenia.

Seuraavina aamuina
käänsin lehden sivuja ja
tunsin ilmassa kuin siiveniskuja.

Historia muutti kulkuaan
ja jäi havisemaan.
Tämä muistetaan.

7. lokakuuta ja
miten lähellä
onkaan Tšetšenia.

Jospa nämä rohkeat naiset
saisivat elää.

7. lokakuuta ja
miten lähellä
onkaan Tšetšenia.

7. lokakuuta ja
hänen nimensä oli Politkovskaja.

7 OTTOBRE

Cosa stavi facendo quando hai sentito la notizia?
Ero rientrato da fuori
e avevo appena acceso una radiolina portatile.

È stato subito chiaro che
non avevo capito male, perché
in un certo qual modo lei se lo aspettava.

E poi vorrei solo stare fermo
e starmene tranquillo.

Sì ho pensato a Mosca

7 ottobre e
come è vicina
la Cecenia.

La mattina dopo
giravo le pagine di un giornale, e
sentivo nell'aria come un battito d'ali.

La storia si è trasformata in movimento
ed è rimasta da sussurrare.
Questo sarà ricordato.

7 ottobre e
come è vicina
la Cecenia.

Chissà che accadrebbe se queste donne coraggiose
potessero vivere.

7 ottobre e
come è vicina
la Cecenia.

7 ottobre e
il suo nome era Politkovskaja.

7 OCTOBER

What were you doing when you heard the news?
I had just come home
And just turned on a pocket radio.

It was at once clear
I had understood well, because
She was expecting all this in some way.

And then, I'd only like to keep calm
And quiet.

Yes, I thought about Moscow
But still more about the country
She wanted to write for.

And I remembered for some reason
It is a country where the birds
Fly their way in constant motion.

And I also remembered the soldiers, all those boys
And their mothers.

7 October:
How close is
Chechnya.

The morning after
I was leafing through a newspaper, and
I could hear like a wingbeat in the air.

History turned into motion,
Something to be whispered.
This will be remembered.

7 October:
How close is
Chechnya.

What if these courageous women
Could live.

7 October:
How close is
Chechnya.

7 October and
Her name was Politkovskaya.
