A Ballad for Sophie Scholl

Richard Marot
Language: English

Sophie Scholl was your name;
I think that you were quite wise
Because you knew that life is fair,
But it has to be a right thing too
And death is not always a cowardice.

This is just a sad ballad for her
But it can be also a hopeful tune;
Some leaflets carried you out of this world
Because they were a protest against dictators
And the old guillotine killed your false treason…

Her unfair death was one more death,
However, it was really something more,
It was the jazzy joy of youth which was killed,
The same joy of Emmett Till and other ones;
That joy is killed because it’s a fearsome thing.

Sophie Scholl, you were a peaceful resistant
Who was against the punishment of tyranny;
You left without arriving to the age of twenty two
And I Just want to remind your huge hope
With this light ballad as a small gift for you…

Her unfair death was one more death,
However, it was really something more,
C’était l’élan de la jeunesse qui fut froissé,
The same joy of Emmett Till and other ones;
That joy is killed because it’s a fearsome thing.
