Lyrics & Music by Sara Marlowe
("dedicated to my uncle Ray, and all others injured on the job")
Album: True Stories

A memorial for injured workers. It was written specifically for Sara's uncle who got cancer because of an unsafe work environment and who along with his co-workers had to fight for compensation.
I'm a simple man,
My life doesn't reach too far
Told you'll get ahead in if you only work hard
So I put in my time
Gave them everything they asked me for..

But then 6 months ago, told I'm losing my time
I gave them my life and they're leaving me to die
For the first time in my life, I'm asking why.

Some lives are worth more than others,
That's just the way it is I guess
But if some lives are worth more than others,
Tell me, why is mine worthless
Worthless…

35 years and I don't know what's more wrong
That they won't help me now or that they knew it all along
I gave them my best and in return they treat me like
I'm already gone.

Some lives are worth more than others,
That's just the way it is I guess
But if some lives are worth more than others,
Tell me why is mine worthless
Worthless…

I may be just a number to you
But don't you know ordinary people
Get to have dreams too

It's too early for me to be nearing the end
Always dreaming of the day when my real life would begin
And now I'm left wondering do I fight or do I give in

Some lives are worth more than others,
That's just the way it is I guess
But if some lives are worth more than others,
Tell me why is mine worthless
Worthless…
