Io vorrei essere là
(Luigi Tenco)

che a questo mondo noi, noi siamo tutti uguali;
ma quando entrava in classe il Direttore
tu ci facevi alzare tutti in piedi,
e quando entrava in classe il bidello
ci permettevi di restar seduti...

Mio buon curato, dicevi che la chiesa
è la casa dei poveri, della povera gente;
però hai rivestito la tua chiesa
di tende d'oro e marmi colorati;

Ora vorrei sapere come mai
vinto non hai eppure non sei morto,
e al posto tuo è morta tanta gente
che non voleva né vincere né morire...

CHERE MAITRESSE

on pouvait rester assis...

Mon bon curé, tu disais que l'Eglise
est la maison des pauvres, des pauvres gens;
mais tu as recouvert ton église
de tentures d'or et de marbres polychromes;

DEAR TEACHER

Dear teacher, one day you taught me
that, in this world, we—we are all equal;
but when the principal entered the classroom
you made us all stand up,
and when janitor came into the classroom
you allowed us to remain seated.

My good man, you said that the church
is the home of the poor—of poor people.
But you have adorned your church with gold curtains & colored marble.
How can a poor man who enters
feel as if he belongs there?

Dear mayor, I heard that one day
you shouted to the people: “Victory or Death!”
Now I would like to know why you have not won but yet are not dead—
and, in your place, how many other people died
who wanted neither victory nor death.

peace for everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Anita

Renzo Zannardi
