When George Bush declared war on the women, men and children of Iraq, so eager was Bob Hawke to get his tongue all the way up Georgie Porgie's arse that he offered the help of the Australian navy before he was even asked! Jeff Pattersen was the first of what was to become many US marines who refused to fight. Some of them are still political prisoners in Bill Clinton's jails, even today.
You hide behind your desk
Using words like coward and traitor,
Because I will not take up arms
And go off to fight your war;
How then should I describe
Leaders who send their own people
Far away to kill and die,
Never saying what it's for?

You talk of loyalty
And of standing by our country,
But your rhetoric and speeches
Don't say anything to me;
As I look across the ocean
At the sea of human faces,
My eyes see fellow workers,
Not a ruthless enemy.

I have no cause to hate
The men I would be killing,
Nor the children nor the women
Whose homes you'd have me bomb;
For the people of that land,
They are my sisters and my brothers,
And our fight is not with people
Who have never done us wrong.

Behind your patriotic rage
I can see the strings a-pulling
Of the mighty and the powerful,
Playing god with humankind;
No, I will not give my life,
And I will not take another's
In pursuit of wealth and riches
In a war that has no right.

I have no cause to hate....

There's another war out there,
It's the one we should be fighting,
It's the war against poverty,
Starvation and disease;
For your missiles, tanks and guns,
They aren't only bought with dollars,
But by the millions daily dying
Until this senselessness has ceased.

I have no cause to hate
The men who you are killing,
Nor the children nor the women
Whose homes each day you bomb;
For the people of that land,
They are my sisters and my brothers,
And our fight is not with people
Who have never done us wrong.

Versione italiana di Kiocciolina
UN'ALTRA GUERRA LA' FUORI

Ti nascondi dietro alla scrivania
Usando parole come "codardo" e "traditore",
Perché non prenderò le armi
Per andare a combattere la tua guerra;
Allora come dovrei descrivere
I leader che mandano la loro gente
Lontano per uccidere e per morire,
Senza neppure dirne la ragione?

Parli di lealtà
E di stare al fianco del nostro paese,
Ma la tua retorica e i tuoi discorsi
Per me non significano niente;
Mentre guardo attraverso l'oceano
Al mare di volti umani,
I miei occhi vedono compagni lavoratori,
Non uno spietato nemico.

Non ho motivo di odiare
Gli uomini che dovrei uccidere,
Tantomeno i bambini o le donne
Le cui case vorresti farmi bombardare;

Che gioca a dio con l'umanità;

Contro la fame e la malattia;
Perché i tuoi missili, carri armati e pistole,
Non sono comprati solo con i dollari,
Ma con le milioni di morti giornaliere
Finché questa insensatezza non è cessata.

Non ho motivo di odiare
Gli uomini che stai uccidendo,
Tantomeno i bambini o le donne
Le cui case bombardi ogni giorno;
Perché le persone di quella terra,
Sono miei fratelli e sorelle,
E la nostra lotta non è contro persone
Che non ci hanno mai fatto del male.
