My friend, Mike 'Whisker Fish' Dollins, sent me an over the top press release for his appearance at our festival May 20, 2007. He said the stars are all in align and we're all gonna kick it out and jam some twelve bar boogie at 3:00 pm May 20 and it may even bring peace on earth.
So that inspired me to write this song, "Blues For Peace".

The song describes life in the ghetto as shadows, haunted by their destiny. The Jewish shadows – ghetto residents – live as corpses, as others continue their lives giving no thought to their pain and suffering. The lonely man – nobody listens to his cries. Ecco che è passato un altro ventisette di maggio. Coi suoi soliti preavvisi. Un manifestino attaccato al CPA. Un post su un altro blog che lo ricordava, assieme alla poesia di una bambina. Mi dicevo di non parlarne più, mi dicevo.
Anche perché, come sempre, mi sarei ritrovato a dire cose già dette e stradette. A ricordarmi, come faccio da diciassette anni a questa parte, che quella bambina della poesia l'ho vista coi miei occhi tirare fuori dalle macerie, a un metro e mezzo di distanza. A ridire di come, da allora, non ho più sopportato nemmeno la vista di un ovetto Kinder. A raccontare di nuovo di un piede in pigiama a righe, e di un fagottino che mi passava davanti in braccio a un pompiere. Tutto di quella notte maledetta, fin dall'esplosione, fino nei più minuti particolari. L'insegna dissolta dell'Antico Fattore, che aveva lasciato solo... (Continues)

Andrea Gallo nasce a Genova il 18 Luglio 1928. Fin da piccolo fu attratto dalla spiritualità dei salesiani di Giovanni Bosco tanto che nel 1948 entrò nel loro noviziato di Varazze, proseguendo poi a Roma gli studi liceali e filosofici. Fin dall’adolescenza, fece sua la dedizione di don Bosco di vivere a tempo pieno con gli ultimi, i poveri , gli emarginati.
Nel 1953 chiede di partire per le missioni e viene mandato in Brasile a San Paulo dove compie studi teologici. Il clima per lui insopportabile della dittatura che vigeva in Brasile, lo costringe a ritornare l’anno dopo in Italia, ad Ivrea, dove prosegue gli studi e viene ordinato sacerdote il 1 luglio 1959. La ballata dedicata a Don Andrea Gallo
Don Andrea Gallo (Campo Ligure, 18 luglio 1928 – Genova, 22 maggio 2013)
Andrea Gallo nasce a Genova il 18 Luglio 1928. Fin da piccolo fu attratto dalla spiritualità dei salesiani di Giovanni Bosco tanto che nel 1948 entrò nel loro noviziato di Varazze, proseguendo poi a Roma gli studi liceali e filosofici. Fin dall’adolescenza, fece sua la dedizione di don Bosco di vivere a tempo pieno con gli ultimi, i poveri , gli emarginati.
Nel 1953 chiede di partire per le missioni e viene mandato in Brasile a San Paulo dove compie studi teologici. Il clima per lui insopportabile della dittatura che vigeva in Brasile, lo costringe a ritornare l’anno dopo in Italia, ad Ivrea, dove prosegue gli studi e viene ordinato sacerdote il 1 luglio 1959. Un anno dopo viene nominato cappellano alla nave scuola della Garaventa, noto riformatorio... (Continues)

Una canzone che avrebbe potuto trasformarsi in inno. E' stata il primo "coming out" del grande cantautore catalano che per molto tempo - cosa compresibilissima in quel periodo - aveva nascosto la sua omosessualità.
Fu proprio a Barcellona negli anni '70 che si organizzò un primo movimento per i diritti degli omosessuali, cosa che allora rappresentava ovviamente anche un fronte della lotta contro il franchismo. C'è qualcuno per cui Llach è la personificazione di un incubo: rosso, catalano e gay! La "Cançó d’amor" di Llach è una sincera dichiarazione.

La tentative de coup d'État fut appuyée par les militaires, la loge P2 de Licio Gelli, la mafia, les services secrets italiens et, au moins au début, la CIA. Ensuite les Zétazuniens, qui voulaient un homme de garantie à la tête du gouvernement putschiste, retirèrent leur appui car – semble-t-il – ils ne réussirent pas à obtenir la disponibilité d'Andreotti.

E' questa Stien i bjerget ("Il sentiero sulla montagna"), musicata dal Grup Yorum ma scritta e interpretata in lingua originale dai Savage Rose. I Savage Rose sono un importante gruppo rock psichedelico danese fondato nel 1967; il suo leader, Thomas Koppel, è morto nel 2006. Rock psichedelico sì, ma sempre accompagnato da testi militanti e antifascisti, come appunto questo. Una canzone, a mio parere, di bellezza straordinaria. [RV]

È morto Georges Moustaki. Il cantante, greco di nascita e francese di adozione, aveva 79 anni e soffriva da tempo di problemi respiratori che gli impedivano di cantare. Nato ad Alessandria d'Egitto il 3 maggio 1936 - il suo vero nome era Giuseppe Mustacchi; lo aveva mutuato nel nome d'arte con cui è conosciuto in omaggio a Georges Brassens, conosciuto a Parigi negli anni Cinquanta - aveva scritto tante canzoni popolari, tra le quali la celebre Milord, uno dei successi della divina Edith Piaf. In Italia lo si ricorda soprattutto per la sua interpretazione di Lo straniero.
