Long Time Gone

Long Time Gone

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
by Erik Pedersen

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A giant peace symbol often served as a backdrop Sunday night, but it didn't always look peaceful. When Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young began a run of the first four songs from Neil Young's bitter new "Living With War" album, the symbol reappeared on the rear curtain -- now battered and crooked, like it had been through the fight of its life.

For this seen-it-all quartet, 2006 really must seem like deja vu.

Stumping on the Freedom of Speech tour, their first in four years, the political action committee of David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills and Young rekindled the spirit of the '60s with barely one whit of nostalgia. That's because their sprawling 34-song set at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Orange County was about looking back in anger, while focusing on the new world disorder and America's... (Continues)

Frankie Teardrop

Frankie Teardrop

Testo e musica / מילים ומוזיקה / Lyrics and music / Paroles et musique / Sanat ja sävel: Ehud Banai / אהוד בנאי
[Ehud Banai vehaPlitim] “Ehud Banai and the Refugees”

Lyrics: Shamrot 'Or / מילים: שמרית אור / Testo: Shamrot 'Or / Paroles: Shamrot 'Or / Sanat: Shamrot 'Or

(Continues)

With 加入到遠征軍, a song originating in the Han Dynasty period (202 b.C.-220 a.C.), we surely have the oldest antiwar song ever included in our collection and, at the same time, an everlasting document of capital importance. "At fifteen I went to war..." Including a number of English translations and one Italian version.

POL is an Edinburgh-based musician. This song, 1, was written mid-2005,not specifically as an anti-war song, more so as an anthem to get people to create change.

How Many More Willie McBrides?

How Many More Willie McBrides?
From/da Songs For Change

"Liza Mulholland is based in Inverness. Her song was inspired by the scale of killing in Iraq which made her think about Eric Bogle's anti-war anthem, Green Fields of France/No Man's Land, and 'how, ninety years on from the First World War, we have the same old utter horror and futility of war, with its terrible loss of young life on both sides, supported by the same old lies and platitudes from right-wing politicians.'"

Lament For A Labour M(S)P

From/da Songs For Change

"Another song by Liam Kane. He writes 'this song was inspired by former MSP, Iain Grey, and the current MP for East Kilbride and former Armed Forces minister, Adam Ingram. Despite several years campaigning for third world causes, Iain Grey refused to speak out against the so-called war in Iraq while he was a minister in the Scottish Parliament; Adam Ingram not only supports the war enthusiastically, he behaves in an ignorant fashion to those for whom it has meant the ultimate sacrifice, as is the case with the way he has treated Rose Gentle.' From/da Songs For Change

"Another song by Steven Clark. He writes: 'A young boy named Ali Abbas became a media pet when his family was killed, and he lost both arms during the Allied bombardment of Baghdad. He subsequently was flown to the UK for treatment, and was given prosthetic limbs. When he appeared on television screens across the world, he was inundated with gifts from well-wishers. What made me write this song was hearing that he had been sent a Playstation. Just what you need when you have no hands. The 'God Willing' line came from his uncle and the boy himself. Whenever they were quoted, they would always add 'God Willing'.' "

"Malachy Tallack is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter living in Fair Isle, Shetland, who has two albums of my own songs. 'This song was written after hearing a radio news feature about the last remaining British veterans of World War I. The report was discussing whether or not the last veteran to die should be given a state funeral. But it did not discuss whether or not they would want one. I wrote the song from the perspective of the last veteran, who has seen his country betray all of the ideals that he held, and who certainly does not want to be buried with a Union Jack.' "

"Tom Fairnie is an Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter. In his first song, Rockets Over Babylon, 'the chorus recalls the bombing of Berlin, Hanoi and the Lebanon, which is used to emphasise the fact that perhaps this isn't a strategy that works. Ascanio Celestini: La casa del ladro (a Gaetano Bresci)
[2007]

[RV]

Push The Button

Push The Button

"I know this song is not political. It does warn against the perils of a nuclear war and crazy leaders who might push the button. Some may think it refers to Israeli leaders, some may think it talks about other countries’ leaders. We are not taking sides. The message we wish to convey is that all we want is to live, smell the flowers bloom and have fun. Last year all of Europe had a laugh on horror movies monsters from Finland. This year we give the opportunity to laugh on the living monsters among us”
