B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs)

B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs)
[2005]
Da / From "Mesmerize"

This song is about the business behind war. (thanks, Chad - Andover, MN)

"B.Y.O.B." is a term that means "Bring Your Own Booze." It is often used on party invitations if no alcohol will be served, but you are free to bring your own. In this case, it stands for "Bring Your Own Bombs."
When the band played this on Saturday Night Live in 2005, they brought their own F-bombs, which NBC muted. At one point, however, they took a close-up of guitarist Daron Malakian, who yelled, "F--K Yeah!" This made... (Continues)

Love

[2003]
Testo e musica di Larry Edoff

A huge, brilliantly illuminated 28x67 foot billboard will openly display LOVE to approximately 1.5 million people per day in Times Square, New York, USA, for six weeks commencing May 1, 2003. This is not your typical, flashy advertisement; this is a message to the world, and it is the simple message of LOVE.

LOVE is the artwork of Rudi-Renoir Appodlt, digital artist and musician residing in Lucerne, Switzerland. The artist purchased billboard ad space himself, supported in part by private donations. WorldArt, the non-profit organization behind the scene, aims to create a global network to promote love through this project.

Music will also be used to broadcast the message of LOVE. New York area singer/songwriter, Larry Edoff, was chosen for this project. "When Rudi first talked with me about the LoveProject and asked me to write a song for it, I thought... (Continues)

"This song is about angst and fear in hearing the news of the atrocities that happen around us. We live a time where we have instant access to global happenings and the focus tends to be on the horrors of the day. Constant bombardment of these things can desensitize us so we don't feel.

Fear can make us shut down and run or hide or fight back whereas love expands us and comforts us and keeps the vision of peace and hope alive. I think everyone in the world needs love and not fear." - Norine Braun

This song is a tribute to human rights activist Shin Yasui, who was killed in a car accident in June 1998. Yasui was working with the "Mladi Most" ("Youth Bridge") project in Mostar as well as in Sarajevo and Foca from 1994 to 1998. His teachings in cross-cultural seminars and his all-partisan approach to conflicts have deeply moved people who knew him in Bosnia-Herzegovina and all over the world .

Lili Marlene (Vor der Kaserne)
Germane verkis Hans Leip, 1915
Esperanta teksto laŭ Kantfesto I, 1982
Melodion komponis Norbert Schultze, 1938

Il testo è riprodotto da / Lyrics are reproduced from Thomas Easaw's Official Website

I am Thomas Easaw.
I come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, where English is not my first language. And so my expressions may not be as powerful as my feelings are. This is only an attempt.
Friends and enemies, for President Bush, (unlike the sincere American), the dollar may be the most important thing.
But for those who believe that honour is greater than the dollar, they are left with no other option, but to fight and die - because they cannot win.
Let us not kill them and let them not kill us.
If it was the others, the day before; Afghanistan, yesterday and Iraq, today - it could be me, tomorrow and you, the day after. When such intimidation to our dignity is in the air, it is expected of all of us to stand up to defend our lives and our pride.
But for those of you, like me, who have been brought up in the way of love and non violence, who prefer neither to fight nor kill, at least join me in my song.
If you believe in what you think you believe in

Soldaduzkarik ez!

Soldaduzkarik ez!
[1994]
Album: L

(Continues)

In the two weeks immediately following the Sept 11 terrorist attacks on New York, a prominent psychiatrist interviewed many of those who had lost loved ones in that tragedy, and many more who had not. The results might surprise you. Those who had lost loved ones were unanimous in issuing a plea to their government that there must be no reprisals against innocent civilians. "How will it help my grief by making others suffer the same?" was how one woman put it.

But those who had experienced no personal loss reacted in a dark and different way. "They didn't worry about our civilians," said one. "Why should we worry about theirs?".
So you tell me, my friend, that the answer lies in war,

Four Strong Women

[1996]
Testo e musica di Maurie Mulheron

da: http://unionsong.com

Maurie writes:

This song celebrates the actions of four British women, Andrea Needham, Joanna Wilson, Lotta Kronlid and Angie Zeltner, who are members of the peace group, Ploughshares. In January 1996, they broke into the high security hangar owned by British Aerospace in Lancashire. Their purpose was to disarm one of the newly built Hawk jets. These jets were due for delivery to the Indonesian Government who use the jet Hawk against the villagers of East Timor.

The four women had researched the plane well, learning its control panel layout and serial number. Months were spent monitoring the security and general operations of the British aerospace site at Warton until they were sure that they had located the exact plane destined for Indonesia.

Once they had made a positive identification, Jet ZH 955, they made their last... (Continues)

The Pig-Iron Song

The Pig-Iron Song
[1964]
