MISIRLI
Ωχ, ΜουσουρλούMısırlım, o kara gözlerin
Kalbimde ateşler yaktı
Ah ya habibi, ah yalelelli, ah!
İki dudağından bal damlıyor, oyy!
Ah, Mısırlı, sihirli masalsı güzelliğin,
Çıldırtacak beni, dayanamıyorum artık.
Ah, çalacağım seni Arabistan'dan!
Ah, Mısırlı, sihirli masalsı güzelliğin,
Çıldırtacak beni, dayanamıyorum artık.
Ah, çalacağım seni Arabistan'dan!
Ωχ, ΜουσουρλούKara gözlü deli Mısırlım
Hayatım bir buseyle değişir
Ah ya habibi, bir öpücükle ah!
Senin o minik ağzından, oyy!
Ah, Mısırlı, sihirli masalsı güzelliğin,
Çıldırtacak beni, dayanamıyorum artık.
Ah, çalacağım seni Arabistan'dan!
Ah, Mısırlı, sihirli masalsı güzelliğin,
Çıldırtacak beni, dayanamıyorum artık.
Ah, çalacağım seni Arabistan'dan!
Ωχ, ΜουσουρλούAh, Mısırlı, sihirli masalsı güzelliğin….
* It is the only disc we have found on the web including the very original song by Patrinos. It has been released by FM in Athens on 2012. The cover depicts the famous picture “Café de Nuit, Arles” by Paul Gauguin, now in Moscow, Puškin Museum

[1] Mousourlou was the pronunciation of Misirlou among the greeks of İzmir/Smyrna

It seems to us that this version is the one closest to the original oriental melody by an unknown author because of both the rhythm and the wording, beyond the word “mousourlou”. Of course it is a kind of an hypothesis. The ethnomusicologists and more the greek philologists , involved in the music and greek language of XIX century, can establish that by comparing the current version with the other ones.
